Job Description :

The Position:

The Virginia site consists of one primary facility and several satellite warehouse locations. The Operations General Manager will have responsibility for the performance of the Virginia site, managing all operational functions, including; customer satisfaction, quality, pricing, and purchasing, along with human resources, finance, manufacturing, safety, productivity, transportation and logistics. The Operations General Manager will collaborate closely with the VP of Sales to ensure overall profitability of the Virginia business.

Reporting Relationships:

This position reports to the President, Southeast Region and manages a team of direct reports consisting of a Director of Operations, Manufacturing Manager for Converting, and HR Manager. The entire Virginia team is approximately 125 employees.

Responsibilities:

The qualified candidate will have overall responsibility for the operation of the Virginia site.

The role is accountable for the day-to-day activities of the business, providing the resources necessary to grow and/or taking the necessary actions to manage profitability. In addition, the Operations GM, Virginia will drive cultural change and accountability while presenting a SupplyOne voice internally and externally. SupplyOne desires to maintain its entrepreneurial, decentralized field decision-making culture, with efforts designed to enhance systems and processes across the enterprise.

Additional responsibilities include:

  • Developing and articulating the Regional annual Operations plan and meeting financial commitments, including meeting or exceeding revenue, profitability, and return-on-asset targets. Developing the action plans that support the execution of the strategy.
  • Developing and executing, in collaboration with the VP of Sales, a strong growth strategy including market expansion. Providing the resources necessary to grow and/or takes the necessary actions to drive profitability while maintaining a competitive operational cost structure.
  • Developing and implementing regional strategies that are in line with corporate strategies; working with regional management and other Company leaders to ensure congruency among businesses.
  • Exceeding EBITDA and related financial objectives by developing rigor around the annual budget process; ongoing forecasting requirements; scheduling expenditures; analyzing variances, initiating corrective actions and timely report of results.

Responsibility for operating performance, e.g., profit, working capital, on-time delivery, planning, scheduling, materials management, etc.

  • Analyzing market positioning of the various players operating in the sector for the purpose of benchmarking and identifying future business opportunities.
  • Developing and maintaining key customer relationships to drive retention and growth
  • Developing talent and maximizing human capital including assessing the current leadership team making certain the right team is in place; identifying those with potential and providing opportunities to grow professionally – building a succession plan.
  • Engaging, empowering, and leading a team of professionals through progressive leadership practices focused on accountability and delegation of authority.
  • Supporting and enhancing the culture of high-value, high-touch customer service excellence.
  • Developing and leading a world-class operating culture and having a measurable impact on the success and growth of the overall organization. Provide strong balanced entrepreneurial and process-driven leadership.

Qualifications

The Candidate:

  • Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience with 2-5 years in a management role with full site operations responsibility with a complete complement of direct reports including finance, human resources, quality, distribution and/or manufacturing operations.
  • Prior experience working in the Packaging (including corrugated) industry.
  • Experience with driving change – change management leader.
  • The ideal candidate will have managed a business with revenues of at least $25 million with demonstrated track record of driving profitable growth.
  • Proven track record of improving operational excellence, as well as improving operating metrics (OTD, operating profit margin, reducing working capital. etc.).
  • Strong financial/analytical acumen.
  • Effective strategic leadership skills and executive attributes; the ability to foster, formulate and execute business strategies that deliver profitable growth.
  • Demonstrated track record of building high performing teams:
  • Creating a series of initiatives and priorities with corresponding related metrics to drive growth and set goals on both a company and individual level
  • Capable of motivating and influencing people to take action, proven team builder
  • Able to drive business plans, goals, incentives, and accountability clearly and concisely
  • Strong commercial knowledge with a strong external market focus and an understanding of the markets and customer groups important to the client.
  • Hands-on involvement in customer relationships in applicable markets; the knowledge and confidence to interact with customers and speak articulately about the Company's products and services.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and produce innovative ways to deliver the company's portfolio of products and services to generate business across a complex organization.
  • A record of accomplishment providing outstanding customer experience in past roles and managing and delivering financial results across a services-oriented business.
  • Proven strategic planning skills and experience conducting competitive analyses, and working with Sales Leadership to develop marketing plans and pricing strategies, etc.
  • Experience operating successfully in a matrixed organization.
  • Strong analytical thinking, problem solving skills and communications skills (both written and oral) with attention to detail.
  • Proven leader who can be highly effective as a strategic, business partner to the Regional President and senior leadership team while operating from the field and driving results with his/her teams – drives a total company win together culture.
