Job Title: General Manager Cannabis Dispensary

Our client is launching a premium cannabis dispensary in Manhattan, NY, and is seeking a talented General Manager to spearhead this exciting venture. This role offers the opportunity to shape the store from its inception, assembling a team, sourcing products, and ensuring operational excellence. The ideal candidate will possess extensive experience in retail management, preferably within the cannabis or similarly regulated industries, and bring a proactive, problem-solving approach to this leadership position.
Role Overview:
As the General Manager, you will oversee all aspects of store operations, including pre-launch setup, team management, compliance adherence, and customer engagement. Youll play a pivotal role in establishing this dispensary as a trusted, innovative, and compliant provider in New Yorks fast-evolving cannabis market.
Key Responsibilities:
Pre-Opening Tasks
- Lead the setup of the dispensary, including store design, product sourcing, vendor selection, and merchandising layout.
- Recruit and train a team of 810 retail associates to deliver exceptional service and operational excellence.
- Work with ownership to ensure the store meets all state and local cannabis regulations prior to launch.
Daily Operations
- Oversee the stores daily operations, including scheduling, inventory management, and financial reporting.
- Maintain a clean, secure, and welcoming retail environment for both customers and staff.
- Implement standard operating procedures to ensure efficiency and compliance.
Team Leadership
- Train and manage staff to ensure they provide high-quality customer service and maintain a thorough understanding of cannabis products and regulations.
- Conduct regular performance reviews, team meetings, and individual coaching sessions.
Customer Engagement
- Create a premium customer experience through education, professionalism, and responsiveness to inquiries or issues.
- Monitor customer feedback to continually improve service delivery.
Compliance and Reporting
- Ensure strict adherence to all NY cannabis laws, including ID checks, daily transaction limits, and accurate record-keeping.
- Stay informed of any changes in regulations and update operational procedures accordingly.
Future Expansion
- Prepare for the opening of additional locations by refining processes and contributing to scaling strategies.
Qualifications:
Experience
- Minimum of 3 years in retail management; cannabis or highly regulated industries strongly preferred.
- Proven track record in team management, inventory oversight, and operational excellence.
Knowledge and Skills
- Deep understanding of New Yorks cannabis laws and consumer trends.
- Proficiency in dispensary point-of-sale (POS) systems; experience with Dutchie is a plus.
- Strong organizational, problem-solving, and leadership skills.
Additional Requirements
- Availability to work weekends and adapt to a variable schedule as needed.
- Bachelors degree in business, management, or a related field is preferred but not required.
