Our client has recently been acquired by a private equity-backed, global leader in high-performance rotating solutions. The parent company, with four manufacturing sites worldwide, specializes in custom slip rings, rotary joints, and complex rotating systems for defense, space, aerospace, energy, and industrial sectors. The acquisition positions our client for significant growth through market expansion, increased capacity, and enhanced operational efficiencies.
POSITION OVERVIEW
The General Manager will be responsible for driving operational excellence, strategic growth, and financial performance within our client's business. Reporting to the CEO, this role will oversee all aspects of operations, manufacturing, finance, engineering, sales, supply chain, and strategic planning, whilst driving enhanced efficiency, safety, and customer satisfaction at every opportunity.
This individual will shape commercial strategy, monitor market trends, and strengthen relationships with customers, suppliers, and internal teams. As a hands-on leader, the General Manager will foster a culture of continuous improvement, accountability, and innovation, ensuring both operational and financial objectives are met.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Leadership & Strategy:
- Collaborate with the group CEO and stakeholders to define and implement medium- to long-term strategic objectives.
- Translate the strategy into actionable goals, managing P&L, setting budgets, and ensuring profitability.
- Lead and mentor the entire organization, defining roles, and creating a scalable structure with clear performance metrics and succession planning.
Operational Effectiveness:
- Build and guide a cohesive engineering and operations team focused on continuous improvement and operational excellence.
- Implement performance management systems, cost optimization strategies, and robust quality and supply chain processes.
- Establish systems and processes to improve workflow efficiency and ensure compliance with industry standards.
Sales, Business Development & Commercial:
- Develop and executing comprehensive sales strategies to drive revenue growth and market expansion.
- Lead high-level negotiations and monitoring market trends to refine competitive pricing and business development strategies.
- Integrate technical and operational insights into bid preparations to secure robust commercial agreements.
Overall, the role requires a strong leader who can drive strategy, streamline operations, and grow the business through effective sales and commercial initiatives.
CANDIDATE PROFILE
QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor's degree in a relevant engineering discipline.
- Minimum 20 years of experience within custom engineered product manufacturing environment, with eight years of leadership experience responsible for multi-disciplinary orgs and at least five years with P&L ownership.
- Strong knowledge of manufacturing economics as well as developing expense and capital budgets, justification for approval, variances, and lost opportunities analysis
- Deep understanding and practical application of operational costs structures to include production costs.
- Experience setting up operational support infrastructure for a manufacturing operation including supply chain, finance, logistics, HSE, production and technology for a manufacturing operation
- Exceptional people leadership and stakeholder engagement skills, with a proven track-record of scaling organizations and building highly productive teams.
- Demonstrable experience of leading organizes through periods of high growth and driving transformational initiatives
- Instinctively collaborative working style and able to effectively build relationships at all levels of the organization, from field to boardroom.
- Outstanding risk management skills, applying commercial and technical logic to identifying and mitigating risks.
- Someone who readily generates ideas; shows creativity and ingenuity and provides solutions to solve complex problems.
