Open Date 9/26/2024 ClassificationDepartmentExempt/Non-Exempt Non-Exempt System Job TitleDescriptionSUPERVISION RECEIVED: Manager of Grounds and Athletic Services SUPERVISION EXERCISED: Student Workers SHIFT: Tuesday - Saturday, Day Shift (Optional Monday through Friday when classes are not in session) POSITION SUMMARY: With minimal supervision, perform a broad range of tasks and duties associated with landscaping and grounds maintenance activities. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Through a work order system, as well as direction from others, provide the maintenance and installation of the campus landscape, walkways, roads and parking lots, outdoor furniture, snow removal and other routine or emergency maintenance; trash, recycling, litter and related clean-up.
- Under general supervision, lay out, mark and line athletic fields to varsity and intramural specifications and provide support for athletic activities and events.
- Depending on workload requirement, perform work associated with the General Services division of the department, i.e. delivery, furniture removal and placement, trash removal, emptying of trash chutes, event set-up and set-downs.
- Operate grounds maintenance equipment such as, but not limited to, lawn mowers, small farm tractors and handheld power equipment.
- Assist in minor repairs and preventative maintenance on all grounds and delivery vehicles, equipment and tools.
- Assist other divisions of the department as required - structural and mechanical operations, custodial, etc.
- Required to participate in a rotating one-week duration on-call system related to ice and snow events.
- This system normally extends from November through March.
- Comply with all safety procedures and work guidelines encountered in the maintenance and operation of institutional buildings and built and natural environments. Communicate issues to managers or supervisors; actively participate in training activities, seminars and safety meetings.
- Position is designated as 'essential personnel' and is required to provide various duties and maintenance services 24 hours per day, 7 days per week as required during institutional closures, and duties related to emergencies, scheduled and unscheduled events.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Valid Pennsylvania driver's license, recent experience in the grounds/landscape fields or equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to perform the requirements of this position.
- General knowledge of grounds or landscape maintenance and associated materials and equipment.
- Ability to perform manual tasks requiring above average physical strength.
- Must be able to work from ladders, scaffolds, etc., in ditches, freight elevators or other confining spaces, shovel snow and operate snow removal equipment.
- Possess the ability to work independently, under the direction of others, follow oral and written instructions, and work with other staff members as part of a team to create and maintain a positive, productive, safe and efficient work environment.
