Geotechnical Project Engineer

Job Type: Full-time, direct hire with our client

Career Level: Mid- Senior level

Estimated Salary Range: $90,000 to $130,000 depending on experience

Location: Candidates must be able to commute regularly to one of these locations or be willing to relocate before starting.

    Job Description:

    The Project Geotechnical Engineer is responsible for managing geotechnical projects, geotechnical report preparation, geotechnical proposal preparation, performing basic to complex geotechnical calculations, and providing professional consultation services to inform project design recommendations. The Project Geotechnical Engineer serves as a mentor to other junior geotechnical staff as needed. This is an exempt salaried position that reports to the Engineering Services Manager or Area Manager. This position is a hybrid remote and in-office role as required to fulfill all Essential Duties and Responsibilities.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for performing engineering analyses and writing technical reports; responsible for field investigations when staff is not available to assist.
  • Provide mentorship to EI/EITs and advise/assist to professionally develop Staff Engineers.
  • Direct and execute geotechnical project assignments, including but not limited to: engineering analyses, report preparations, field explorations, and laboratory analyses.
  • Evaluate on-site ground conditions and understand the conditions' impact on design and construction.
  • Perform shallow and deep foundation designs, slope stability analysis calculations, and seismic assessments.
  • Peer review geotechnical reports prepared by other geotechnical engineering staff.
  • Regularly communicate with clients to ensure consistent quality of work, maintain exceptional staff performance, and address client concerns and expectations.
  • Attend geotechnical special inspection and project kick-off meetings.
  • Actively participate in professional and technical organizations as approved by Area Manager (AM).
  • Monitor project scope, progress of work, and budget management on assigned projects.
  • Responsible for supervising field and office activities of Staff Engineer(s) and Engineering Technicians for assigned projects.
  • Attend meetings with clients to discuss design recommendations prior to submitting reports.Provide clients with clarifications or modifications as necessary, either verbal or written, as required and requested.
  • Perform and maintain project file maintenance according to the approved guidelines.
  • Review billing data prior to issuance of final invoices to clients.
  • Review requests for proposals (RFP's), develop and finalize proposals, and act as division liaison with clients and the organization.
  • Responsible for reviewing Geo-professional Business Association (GBA) industry best practices and other pertinent loss-prevention information and incorporating methods into day-to-day activities.
  • Other duties may be assigned.
  • Required Education and/or Work Experience:

  • BS degree in Civil Engineering (Masters in Geotechnical or Civil Engineering preferred).
  • Registration as Professional Engineer in the states of Idaho and/or Washington within 90 days of employment, as well as maintain professional registrations in the state(s) in which they practice.
  • 5-10 years of relevant experience preferred.
  • Experience in geotechnical report preparation and development of geotechnical recommendations.
  • Ability to successfully interact with clients and design teams during design and construction phases of a project.
  • Proficient in project management with proven ability to meet business goals.
  • Strong background in soil mechanics with extensive knowledge of geotechnical analysis and laboratory testing of soils.
  • Extensive experience and understanding in the provision of geotechnical engineering recommendations/soil parameters for shallow and deep foundations, pavements, site preparation, and site mitigation.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of geotechnical engineering software, including: BoreDM, Settle3D, SLIDE, LPILE, Google Earth, AutoCAD, Adobe Acrobat or Bluebeam, and the Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher). Experience using CRM software Unanet, cloud sharing software Microsoft SharePoint and OneDrive, and email provider Microsoft Outlook is preferred.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Capability to produce technical material with a minimum amount of supervision.
  • Acceptable driving record for insurance purposes is required.
  • Work Environment:

    Work will be performed in an office setting, outdoor project sites, and will include travel as required. Outdoor work may include extreme weather conditions (i.e. hot, cold, rain, snow).
