The Gifts Officer manages the Gifts Program, a mid-level giving initiative for donors contributing $5,000–$10,000 annually. This role is focused on cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding relationships with individual donors, while developing strategies to grow the program. The officer is responsible for managing event strategies and program activities designed to engage donors and enhance their connection to the museum.

In addition to overseeing the Jade program, the Gifts Officer drives direct fundraising efforts by soliciting additional donations and ensuring a high level of donor action through proactive stewardship and personalized service.

The Gifts Officer represents the department on internal committees and with external groups, using independent judgment on complex tasks. They regularly interact with staff, vendors, visitors, volunteers, members, and colleagues in a respectful, personable manner.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Develops strategies for growing the Jade Circle ($5,000–$10,000 annual giving) and manages a personal portfolio of members and donors, overseeing all aspects of prospect identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship.
  • Solicits gifts and memberships up to $10,000, using tailored strategies based on donors' philanthropic interests.
  • Manages a portfolio of members and prospects.
  • Coordinates day-to-day operations of the Jade Circle.
  • Drafts solicitations, acknowledgments, and reports; prepares member mailings and publications; and oversees the creation of Jade Circle materials.
  • Manages annual renewal and acquisition campaigns in collaboration with volunteer leadership and Information Systems.
  • Partners across departments to plan membership events and programs including domestic travel.
  • Prepares and analyzes donor data, research reports, and other relevant materials to inform membership strategies and support solicitation efforts.
  • Prepares talking points and briefs executives and staff for donor interactions, providing relevant research, meeting objectives, and key messages to ensure effective communication.
  • Communicates the museum's mission and impact in all written and verbal communications to strengthen donor relationships.
  • Performs additional duties and projects as needed.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor of Arts degree in Business or a related field and three years of progressive fundraising experience. A combination of education and experience will be considered.
  • Knowledge of fundraising principles, techniques, ethics, and nonprofit environments.
  • Ability to manage multiple high-priorities in a fast-paced environment with accuracy and focus.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills; ability to write persuasively and consolidate information effectively.
  • Excellent administrative, management, research, and problem-solving skills with strong follow-through.
  • Ability to work independently with good judgment, handle ambiguity, and lead others when needed.
  • Strong interpersonal skills for building relationships with staff, volunteers, and the public.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality with donor and prospect information.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365; familiarity with Raiser's Edge is a plus.
  • Ability to work under time constraints and meet tight deadlines.
  • Demonstrates a commitment to diversity, equity, access and inclusion principles and practices.
  • Establishes and nurtures strong working relationships with museum staff, colleagues from other institutions, patrons, consultants, and vendors.
  • Availability to work nights and weekends for events or deadlines.

Standard museum and office environment.

COMPENSATION

The Asian Art Museum is committed to practicing salary transparency. The hourly range for this position is $33.6252 - 40.3847/hr. This FLSA exempt opportunity includes a generous benefits package, including but not limited to:

  • Group retirement plan starting after one year of employment

This position is represented by Local 1021, Service Employees International Union.

New hires typically start at the beginning of the wage range.
