WEST VALLEY HIGH SCHOOL ATHLETIC DEPARTMENTJOB OPENING: HEAD GIRLS/BOYS TRACK AND FIELD COACHNAME OF POSITION: HEAD GIRLS'/BOYS' TRACK AND FIELD COACHPRIMARY FUNCTION: To teach and direct various track and field skills and activities in practice situations, as well as attending all home and away Varsity/JV track and field meets as well as managing all home V/JV meets and assisting with JH meets.THIS POSITION IS DIRECTLY RESPONSIBLE TO: West Valley High School Athletic Director and Principal.TIME:Dates Activity Starts and Finishes (approximate): Spring Sports SeasonWeeks per season/year: 13Total number of days required with students: 71-78Number of hours per week with students: 15-35RESPONSIBILITIES:Number of students under your supervision: 75-150Equipment Procurement: YesEquipment Care, Maintenance and Inventory: YesDuties: Attend coaches meetings, parents meetings, practice sessions, matches as assigned. Organize and conduct practices and matches and provide practice schedules and specific, written details of practice organization to the Athletic Director. Keep accurate attendance records for all athletes at practices/meets. Properly supervise school equipment and facilities usage. Provide input to Athletic Director for scheduling of non-league meets/invitationals. Assist in articulating and enforcing WVSD and WIAA rules/regulations for athletes. Emphasize safety precautions, and be aware of the best training and injury procedures. Attend meetings as called by the athletic/activities director. The pre- and post-season (evaluation) meetings are required as part of the coaching contract. Perform other duties as assigned by the principal. Properly supervise school equipment and facilities usage. Keeping accurate statistics and disseminate to appropriate coaches/league/media sources. Teach and model the highest standards of conduct and sportsmanship during practices and contests. Develop a budget for basic equipment (ASB Budget) and for capital needs (Levy/General Budget). Promote the entire interscholastic program of the school and direct the program in harmony with the total school program. Be thoroughly acquainted with the contest rules and ensure that your athletes are aware of them as well. Attend required WIAA track and field rules clinic for head coaches. Maintain WIAA coaching standards/work toward becoming a master coach.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:Credentials: Current First Aid/CPR card required.Education: 4-year degree preferred.Experience: Previous track and field experience at the high school level required and college level preferred. Previous track and field coaching experience in high school/comparable community programs required. Knowlege of FAT timing system preferred.PERSONAL QUALITIESPersonal Qualities: The ability to work with student/athletes and their parents in a professional manner. The successful candidate will work to instill the highest desirable ideals of character and ensure that the welfare of each student/athlete is always held in the highest regard. The candidate should have the ability to be an independent, critical thinker as well as a team player.SALARYSalary depends on experience. Additional 1% per extra day, of base stipend for post-season play.
