WHAT WE'RE OFFERING
The GIS Technical Architect is responsible for updating and maintaining United's mapping database. This position collaborates with management, engineers, and contractors to gather accurate information and ensure timely implementation. The role involves attending meetings, trainings, and other events to generate and maintain GIS data and keep as-built projects up to date. Additionally, the GIS Technical Architect develops applications tailored to United's needs and continuously works to improve processes.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Duties include the following, but other duties may be assigned as required.
- Develops and manages GIS workflows.
- Manages and performs professional, technical, and analytical work with high-level coordination responsibility implementing and developing automation systems that operate or interface with the enterprise Geographic Information System (GIS) database.
- Develops new GIS solutions and provides ongoing support post-implementation.
- Creates and implements complex queries to filter data and develops simple scripts to automate standard tasks for use by others.
- Utilizes software and tools to integrate multiple specialized databases and layers from various sources, including aerial photography, for analytical purposes.
- Assists in the coordination and implementation of spatial systems with users and operational personnel.
- May serve as the departmental project leader for application development projects.
- Designs responsive and intuitive user interfaces for desktop and web systems.
- Prepares initial maps for United's implementations.
- Develops detailed and intensive map work as required.
- Interprets as-built project information and integrates it with the base map.
- Works directly with construction contractors as appropriate.
- Produces a variety of map products daily.
- Creates, edits, and utilizes data from multiple sources and formats (e.g., Geodatabases, Web Services).
- Coordinates and conducts internal and consultant training sessions.
- Maintains the team's goals and ensures quality control throughout project development and completion.
- Continuously seeks and suggests innovative approaches to GIS leadership, including practices and processes to improve quality and efficiency.
- Performs quality assurance and quality control (QA/QC) on all work products.
- Interprets internal United requests, including GIS and training needs, ensuring deliverables meet and exceed client expectations.
WHAT YOU BRING
- Bachelor of Science in GIS or a related technical field is required.
- 5–7 years of relevant professional experience is preferred.
- Must possess a valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
- Intermediate knowledge and proficiency with Adobe Acrobat and Microsoft Office applications are required.
- Knowledge or experience with AutoCAD Map3D (eLations Mapping) or ESRI ArcGIS Software Suite (Desktop, Pro, Online, Enterprise, Apps) is preferred.
- Familiarity with field data collection methods (e.g., Trimble GPS) is preferred.
- Ability to work both independently and in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.
- Strong interpersonal skills.
- Skilled at diffusing tension within project teams or between teams when conflicts arise.
- Ability to adapt to shifting priorities, demands, and timelines effectively.
- Effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment.
- Strong written and oral communication skills.
