POSITION CODE: 7425DEPARTMENT/ADMINISTRATION: Hispanic-Serving InstitutionPOSITION: Temporary, Part-time, Approximately 10 Hour Per WeekAnticipated Ten (10) MonthsSALARY RANGE: $17.92 Per HourAVAILABLE: ImmediatelyPOSTING DATE: December 10, 2024APPLICATION DEADLINE: Open Until Filled, Apply ImmediatelyDefinition of Classification:Reporting to the Senior Director of the Student Success Center, the Graduate Assistant for Transfer Student Success will play a crucial role in supporting transfer students as they navigate their transition to the university. By ensuring access to essential resources, guidance, and tailored opportunities, the Graduate Assistant will help foster social, and personal growth among transfer students. This position involves collaboration with various campus departments and units to create a welcoming and inclusive environment. Ideal candidates are graduate students with a passion for higher education, student success, and a commitment to enhancing the overall experience for transfer students.Duties and Responsibilities:The duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
  • Outreach:
    • Assist in creating communication materials, including newsletters, social media content, and emails, to promote transfer student resources and events.
    • Collaborate with Admissions, Student Affairs, Student Success, and academic departments to identify and connect with potential transfer students.
    • Participate in recruitment events, such as open houses and transfer fairs, to represent the University and the Student Success Center.
  • Onboarding:
    • Serve as a mentor and point of contact to incoming transfer students as they navigate the New Student Checklist (CAS) and onboarding requirements in the School of Business and Society and the School of Education.
    • Work with campus partners to ensure a seamless transition for transfer students by facilitating orientation sessions specifically designed for transfer students.
    • Provide one-on-one support to new transfer students, helping them navigate campus resources and academic support.
  • Engagement:
    • Plan and execute events and programs aimed at fostering a sense of community among transfer students.
    • Serve as a liaison between transfer students and campus organizations, promoting involvement in student life and leadership opportunities.
    • Assist in the development and implementation of peer mentoring programs for transfer students.
    • Serve as a member of the Transfer Student Success Team and advocate for transfer student needs within the institution, working to enhance policies and procedures that positively impact their journey.
    • Monitor and assess the effectiveness of engagement initiatives, using feedback to improve future efforts.
    Qualification GuidelinesAny combination equivalent to, but not limited to, the following:Experience/Training/Education:Required
    • Bachelor's degree is required. Admission to a graduate program at the University of Redlands is required.
    • Experience or interest in working with transfer students or non-traditional student populations.
    Knowledge and Skills:
    • Familiarity with social media platforms and communication tools.
    • Ability to engage, develop, and mentor college-age students.
    • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to give presentations and interact with diverse populations.
    • Effective organizational skills, ability to meet deadlines, and manage multiple priorities.
    • Proficiency in computer skills using Microsoft Office Suite and other applications.
    • Ability to work independently and take initiative.
    Physical Requirements/Working Conditions:Working Conditions:Standard office and field setting. Duties performed are in an office environment while sitting at a desk or computer workstation or in meetings. It is not typical for an individual to be offered a salary at or near the top of the range for a position. Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience. The full salary range for this position is defined as the Full Pay Range. The budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position is defined as the Hiring Range.
