Job Description :

Summary: This position is responsible for grain inventory/handling, grain quality/conditioning, facility equipment operation and maintenance, housekeeping, rail loading activities, and the loading/unloading of grain trucks.

Key Roles:

Grain Operations

  • Outside operations which can include: loading and unloading of trucks, operating grain handling equipment, and preventative activities to ensure grain condition
  • Assist with loading of railcars
  • Monitor inventory and grain quality
  • Notify Location Manager and/or Grain Superintendent of grain quality deviations, equipment problems, unsafe working conditions, or any other concerns

Grain Facilities, Equipment and Maintenance

  • Perform preventive maintenance on equipment as directed
  • Complete repairs to equipment and facilities as instructed
  • Maintain equipment and facilities to ensure a safe operating environment
  • Perform yard maintenance including driveways, mowing, weed control, and snow removal

Grain Safety

  • Hold self accountable to safety policies and safe behaviors
  • Ensure location and equipment are maintained to high safety standards
  • Maintain a safe, sanitary workplace in compliance with company policies and regulatory agencies (OSHA, EPA, DNR, DOT, etc.)
  • Monitor outside contractors to ensure safety rules are followed
  • Report any unsafe equipment or working conditions

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing
  • Acute attention to detail
  • Ability to understand and follow written and verbal instructions
  • Mechanical and maintenance aptitude with ability to operate, service and troubleshoot machinery
  • Basic computer skills

Certifications, Licenses, Registrations:

  • Valid driver's license

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent
  • Experience in truck loading/unloading and/or railcar loading is desirable
  • Experience using skid loader, Bobcat, and forklift is preferred

Working Conditions:

Position operates primarily in an outdoor environment. Requires standing for prolonged periods of time and exposure to moving, mechanical parts, dusty conditions, high noise levels, chemicals, and internal and external temperature/weather conditions (from -20 to +100 degrees). Employee may work at elevated heights, in confined spaces, and must be able to adapt to extended-hour workdays. Employee will be required to climb several flights of stairs and ladders. Ability to drive equipment such as forklift and/or skid loader. Position requires the ability to lift weights of sixty (60) pounds or less; bending, twisting, and turning while lifting weights of less than fifty (50) pounds; and pushing brooms and shovels. Employee must be willing to work weekends, seasonal hours, holidays, and overtime if needed.
