Grantmaking Operations Intern

The Foundation seeks an intern for our Grants Management team.

Program Overview:

The Foundation is seeking Grantmaking Operations Intern to work with the Grants Management Team during a 10-week intensive program with a start date of June 2025. The Grants Management Team is responsible for managing the Foundation's grantmaking process. This is an in-person internship in our New York City offices. The Grantmaking Operations Intern will support a range of projects throughout their time at the Foundation and will gain exposure to a wide spectrum of grantmaking data and grantmaking processes.

Position Summary:

Reporting to the Assistant Director, Grants Management and Operations, this internship is an excellent opportunity for a current graduate or undergraduate student to gain exposure to the operations of a large organization while learning about and applying Grant Management best practices. The Grants Management Intern will obtain a clear understanding of the process of managing grants awarded and will complete projects that contribute to the overall success of the grants management team's projects.

Position Description:

Responsibilities may include, but will not be limited to the following:

  • Grants Management Operations: Work with the Grants Management Operations team to coordinate the grantmaking schedule and other deadlines
  • Collaboration: Work closely with cross-functional teams, including program, legal, finance, and communications staff, to understand data needs and deliver actionable insights.
  • Documentation: Maintain thorough documentation of data processes and visualization methodologies

Qualifications:

  • Currently pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree, or recent graduate
  • Ability to prioritize and synthesize information in an analytical and systematic manner
  • Strong writing and communication skills in English
  • Excellent organization skills, strong communication and interpersonal skills, and ability to collaborate effectively
  • Ability to use basic functions of Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office programs
  • Reliable, self-motivated, independent, and able to take on a project assignment and ask for help when needed.
  • Strong communication skills with an ability to explain complex information to non-technical audience
  • Commitment to the Foundation's mission and high level of professionalism

Mellon is committed to providing compensation that is competitive and equitable within the philanthropic sector. The estimated hourly salary range for this role is $27.00 - $30.00. The amount of pay offered will be determined by several factors, including but not limited to qualifications, unique skills, credentials, or experience that is expected to impact the candidate's contribution to the role. We will also consider market data as well as the Foundation's internal pay equity framework.
