Produces machined parts by setting up, and operating a manual surface, jig grinder, or O.D. grinding machine; maintaining quality and safety standards; keeping records; maintaining equipment and supplies. Job Duties: Interprets work orders, blueprints, engineering plans, GD&T, and specifications to plan machining and tooling requirements effectively. Sets up grinders and equipment by installing and adjusting chucks, tools, rotary attachments, fixtures, collets, stops, and vices; establishes zero and reference points, offsets, and compensation. Verifies setups by measuring first-run parts and sample workpieces, ensuring compliance with Air Way Automation standards. Operates and maintains grinding equipment, including surface, jig, centerless, and O.D. grinders; performs wheel dressing and adjusts machinery as needed to meet quality standards. Adheres to safety procedures and maintains a clean, safe work environment, including daily cleaning of equipment, fixtures, and tooling. Completes preventive maintenance and troubleshooting for equipment, following manufacturer instructions, and coordinating repairs, as necessary. Documents production actions, communicates issues and updates across shifts and contributes to continuous improvement efforts. Enhances job skills through educational opportunities and stays current on technical publications. Supports team objectives by accepting varied assignments, contributing to organizational goals, and exploring ways to add value. Journeyman machinists are expected to mentor and train less experienced team members in safe, high-quality machining practices. To succeed, you will need: Proficient in operating manual surface, jig, and O.D. grinders, along with precision measurement tools. Skilled in reading and interpreting mechanical drawings and documents. Basic computer skills with an understanding of standard software. Strong mechanical aptitude, good mathematical skills, and attention to detail. Results-driven, with strong communication skills. A high school diploma or equivalent is required; an engineering certificate or diploma is preferred. Completion of a recognized apprenticeship program required. Physical ability to stand for up to eight hours, bend, stoop, kneel, twist, and lift up to 50 pounds throughout the shift. Domestic travel may be required. Working Conditions: This role requires individuals to stand most of the day and work in environments with varying noise levels and temperature conditions. The position involves lifting up to 50 pounds and includes physical activities such as stooping, bending, twisting, and kneeling.
