Position Description: A painter performs various tasks necessary to prepare and paint tank component parts. This position is also responsible for maintaining paint supplies and the paint storage room. All work duties are performed under the direction and supervision of the department supervisor. At times, this position may be combined with Sandblaster duties and painting. This is dependent upon the production demands. A sandblaster abrades surfaces of metal or hard-composition objects to remove adhering scale, sand, paint, grease, tar, rust and dirt using abrasive-blasting equipment. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Below are examples of the type of duties you could be responsible for:
- Prepares tanks for painting by cleaning surface area with cleaning solvents and masks specific surface areas not to be painted or sandblasted.
- Prepares paints to be used on tanks according to general verbal and written instructions from both the department supervisor and paint manufacturer's written instructions.
- Paints tank components according to customer specifications.
- Assembles tires to tanks after painting is completed using electrical and pneumatic shop tools.
- Maintains spray painting equipment, paint booth, and paint storage room.
- Inventories paint supplies regularly and requisitions paint supplies as needed.
- Loads parts on rack or hangers to be painted or blasted.
- Disassembles paint and sandblasting equipment and cleans equipment.
- Completes assigned duties in accordance with safety policies and practices. This includes regard to individual safety, the safety of other team members, and the safe use of equipment in the workplace.
- Wear approved personal protective equipment such as safety shoes, gloves, safety glasses with side shields, hearing protection, protective clothing, respirators,
