Grocery Department Leader

The following information aims to provide potential candidates with a better understanding of the requirements for this role.

The Grocery Leader reports to the Central Store Manager and is responsible for overseeing the daily operation of the Grocery Department, ordering of all products and supplies, scheduling, all financial aspects of the operation, and training department associates. Also, responsible for hiring and training the team. Maintain sanitation and follow all department conditions.

JOB FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Promote a neat and favorable store image to customers by overseeing efforts to keep the department in good condition, attractive, and friendly.
  • Order all products according to the department strategy and maintain appropriate inventory levels.
  • Coordinate the weekly schedule designed with budget hours set for the department and team accountability.
  • Keep display cases and other merchandising areas stocked and properly faced; display merchandise in an attractive, appealing, neat, and colorful manner.
  • Handle damaged and spoiled products according to company policy and assist in controlling the level of damaged goods. Maintain shrink within acceptable parameters as set by ownership.
  • Assist in receiving and unloading merchandise, checking and verifying product receiving to ensure that items listed on vendor invoices are delivered, and check products for quality and count according to expectations.
  • Maintain organized shelves, ensuring that the department is properly signed, tagged, and that no products are missing.

EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum of 2 years in similar job positions.
  • Experience leading teams.

KNOWLEDGE:

  • Knowledge of the Grocery Department
  • Inventory management
  • Ordering processes
  • Stocking procedures

LANGUAGE:

  • Desirable to speak Spanish and/or Portuguese.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS (Working conditions)

  • Must be able to lift heavy objects occasionally.
  • Must be able to climb a ladder to retrieve items from overhead racks and storage areas.
  • Must have sufficient physical mobility or agility to respond quickly to emergencies such as cleanup requests due to spills or breakage of glass.
  • Must be able to tolerate moderate amounts of dust and chemical fumes from common household cleaning agents during routine housekeeping duties.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $18.00 - $20.00 per hour
