Additionally, the incumbent will perform and lead assigned personnel in working with irrigation systems including installation, operation, and maintenance of the computerized irrigation systems.Other duties include, but are not limited to: perform and lead assigned personnel in grounds equipment maintenance, surplus inventory collection and storage, operation and maintenance of a variety of motorized grounds equipment and tools and snow removal. This position will also perform and lead assigned personnel in areas of plant and tree health, inspecting for disease or pest damage, and make recommendations in the removal and replacement of plants and trees that are unhealthy.Duties & Responsibilities Include: Irrigation Systems and General Equipment: 25%
  • Maintains the operation of motorized grounds equipment such as; trucks, tractors, mowers, blowers, edgers, chainsaws, trimmers, tillers, and leaders in the performance of landscape upkeep.
  • Maintain, install, inspect and repair sprinkler systems. Orders parts as needed.
  • Operate irrigation computer, time scheduling, enable and disable programming, monitor and command points, report failures.
  • Assist Construction Coordinators with locating irrigation system lines, repairing damage, and monitoring newly installed irrigation systems.
  • Ensure equipment is in proper working order. Assist with welding and other repairs as needed.
Landscaping Maintenance: 20%
  • Maintain landscape plant material, including pruning and plant upkeep.
  • Mow, edge, rake, aerate, and fertilize in assigned areas.
  • Perform and lead all assigned personnel to ensure and perform weed control in designated areas.
  • Perform and lead all assigned personnel with plant health, using pesticides to control disease and pests, and determine if irrigation system placement changes are needed.
Litter Control: 15%
  • Maintain litter control in designated areas.
Walkway Maintenance: 15%
  • Maintain walkway maintenance activities; clearing walks, stairs, ramps, and plaza of snow, ice, leaves, and debris.
Leadership: 10%
  • Lead personnel performing duties related to irrigation systems and general equipment, landscape maintenance, litter control, and walkway maintenance.
  • Analyze workloads, prioritize tasks, and delegate work to grounds and temporary staff. Coordinate schedules of all assigned personnel.
  • Maintain compliance with applicable policies and procedures; enforce safety rules and regulations.
  • Attend safety meetings as needed.
  • Maintain communications via portable radio with Facilities Operations personnel.
Labor & Surplus: 10%
  • Perform and lead the moving or removal of furniture as needed.
  • Perform and lead the removal of surplus inventory from buildings, store surplus for quarterly pickup.
Other: 5%
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Perform backup supervisor duties as needed.
  • Cross-train in other areas to be able to backup other employees that are away from campus.
Required Qualifications:High school or equivalent and at least two (2) years experience working with youth, gardening, or in grounds maintenance; OR equivalent education/experience.Additional Requirements:
  • Demonstrated experience working with equipment required for grounds maintenance activities.
  • Physical ability to do the work.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including early mornings, evenings, and weekends as needed.
  • Must have, or be able to obtain by time of hire, a valid driver's license and meet requirements in accordance with SPPM 7.10 and departmental driving standards.
  • Ability to use a variety of hand and motorized tools such as; pruners, loppers, shovels, rakes, hoes, mowers, blowers, edgers, litter picker, chainsaw, trimmers, string trimmer and sprayers.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Demonstrated experience working with computerized irrigation systems.
  • Demonstrated experience with personal computers used to control computerized irrigation software programs.
