Job Description: The Grounds Laborer will perform general grounds keeping duties for all campus properties. This individual will be involved in a wide range of tasks related to landscaping and University grounds maintenance. The Grounds Laborer will play an essential role in creating a safe, clean, and visually appealing environment for all members of the university community. This position is deemed essential, which requires on-call and emergency response to campus, as needed.

Responsibilities:
- Maintain tools, equipment, and work area in a safe, clean and orderly condition
- Ensure that sidewalks, driveways, stairways, and garage are free of debris and trash receptacles are empty
- Operate powered lawn and maintenance equipment - hand tools, vehicles etc.
- Lawn mowing function includes cutting steeply graded areas
- Plant; weed; cultivate, and spread mulch in landscaped areas. Prepare holes and trenches as instructed for installing posts, conduits, etc.
- Assist with the care and maintenance of all sports fields using appropriate equipment and techniques
- Trim and prune shrubbery and trees
- Shovel, blow, or plow snow from all public areas
- Cleans out gutters, down spouts, window wells and exterior stairwells
- Clean grounds including pavement, parking lots and tennis courts; remove litter, debris and refuse
- Prepare holes and trenches as instructed for installing posts, conduits, etc.
- Rakes leaves and dispose of debris
- Move furniture, staging and other materials, including setup for events
- Assist with deliveries ensuring timely arrivals of all received goods
- Detect and report defective material and unusual conditions to supervisor
- Maintain tools, equipment, and work area in a safe, clean and orderly condition
- Assist with the care and maintenance of all sports fields using appropriate equipment and techniques
- Assist with the maintenance and repair of all equipment and vehicles
- Ability to be exposed to hazardous physical conditions (i.e., confined spaces, heights, mechanical parts, electrical currents, vibration, etc.), poor atmospheric conditions (i.e., fumes, odors, dusts, gases, poor ventilation), extreme temperatures, inadequate lighting, and intense noise.
- Must be able to exert up to 100lbs of force occasionally, and/or 50lbs of force frequently and/or up to 20lbs of force constantly to lift, carry, push, and pull or otherwise move objects, with or without reasonable accommodation.

- Must have the ability to travel to various locations, both on and off campus

- Participate in scheduled department meetings
- Contributes to the overall success of the department by performing all other duties and responsibilities as assigned

Qualifications:

- Ability to safely operate power equipment;
- Knowledge of basic landscaping equipment which may include standard transmission trucks, commercial mowers, chain saw, and other power equipment
- Must have the ability to comprehend oral and written instructions
- Ability to establish effective working relationships with employees, supervisors and other University community members.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and as a team member; and good project management skills.
