Our Grounds Maintenance team within the Parks and Recreation Division plays a pivotal role in this mission by providing comprehensive grounds maintenance services encompassing a wide range of facilities and amenities, including parks, cemeteries, beaches, boat ramps, fishing piers, docks, play equipment, lightning detection systems, sports fields, and selective landscape care for County buildings.The Grounds Maintenance Coordinator oversees small scale landscaping operations, ground maintenance and park improvement projects in the County. Creates schedules and verifies tasks related to Grounds Maintenance. Performs work according to some procedures but will exercise discretion and how and when to complete tasks under general supervision.The schedule for this full-time position is Monday through Friday, 6:30 AM to 3:00 PM. Flexible for evening shifts and weekend coverage. Essential Functions
  • Supervises, plans, and coordinates work of assigned staff. Reviews and evaluates employee performance and completes performance evaluations. Counsels staff and initiates commendations or disciplinary action when appropriate.
  • Drives and/or operates a county vehicle or equipment and must obey all safety policies, and roadway rules and laws.
  • Assists in Grounds Maintenance staff, provides needed information for the Grounds Maintenance budget process, as needed.
  • Inspects contract mowing jobs, new projects, and facility conditions and keeps detailed record of findings and repairs
  • Inspects playgrounds, lighting systems, park facilities and sports fields, boat ramps, piers and park amenities and keeps detailed record of findings and repairs.
  • Makes minor repairs in parks and on County properties as needed.
  • Creates schedules of maintenance to be performed, reviews employees' daily worksheets and attends meetings and classes.
  • Assists with disaster preparedness and emergency response in the event of a natural disaster or other emergency event.
  • Obtains quotes for various projects and provides follow through.
  • Performs other duties as required.
Minimum Requirements Education, Training, and Experience
  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Five (5) years' working experience with computers and experience in turf industry with prior supervisory experience preferred.
  • Requires successful completion of classes in turf grass maintenance or grounds maintenance.
Certificates, Licenses, Registration, Skills
  • Valid Florida Driver License or must obtain within 30 days of establishing residency in Florida.
  • Must have or be able to obtain within six (6) months of employment, Playground Safety Inspector certification.
  • Must have sufficient physical strength, agility, and stamina to perform assigned tasks under adverse conditions.
  • Ability to use effectively standard maintenance equipment and hand tools.
  • Ability to work after normal business hours (includes nights and weekend) to respond to emergencies.
  • Ability to effectively communicate (verbally and in writing) in a clear, confident manner using proper grammar.
  • Requires ability to maintain courteous and effective relations with County staff, elected officials, community interest groups and the public.
  • Must have strong working knowledge of computers and be proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Suite of Products (i.e., Outlook, Word, Excel, etc.)
  • Must have or be able to obtain within 90 days certification in FEMA National Incident Management System (NIMS) courses:
    • IS-100.c: Introduction to the Incident Command System (ICS)
    • IS-200.b: ICS for Single Resources & Initial Action Incidents
    • IS-700.b: An Introduction to the National Incident Management System
    • IS-800.c: National Response Framework, an Introduction
Physical Requirements/Work Environment
  • Requires sitting most of the day.
  • The job involves frequent lifting and carrying up to 10 pounds, and occasionally up to 50 pounds.
  • The job requires frequent bending, squatting, kneeling, balancing, twisting, and reaching above shoulders, and occasional climbing and throwing.
