Grounds Maintenance Technician - Methodist University : Job Details

This is a full-time position with benefits. This position reports to the Superintendent of Grounds, and Assistant Superintendent of Grounds.

Duties include, but are not limited to:

* Planting, weeding, mulching, watering, and caring for plants and shrubbery on university grounds.

* Mowing

* Maintaining lawns, trees, shrubs, flowers, turf, and irrigation.

* Trimming hedges, trees, and shrubs.

* Preventing and eliminating weeds.

* Maintaining university grounds by keeping them free from trash, litter, and debris. Tent setups.

* Lifting/moving objects and equipment weighing approximately 50 pounds as needed.

* Using hand and power tools as needed to accomplish assigned tasks.

* Frequent bending, kneeling, lifting, and shoveling.

* Must be able to work weekends as needed.

Qualifications

Experience and Training:

* Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying.

* Prefer applicants with strong grounds or horticultural experience.

* Prefer applicants with education equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade.

* Valid Driver's License required.

Knowledge of:

* Proper weeding, trimming, pruning, and fertilizing of plants and shrubbery.

* Hazards and safety precautions related to general maintenance and horticultural activities.

Ability to:

* Properly care for assigned areas and equipment.

* Understand and carry out oral and written directions.

* Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.

* Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.

* Work outdoors in all weather conditions.

* Bend, kneel, lift, and shovel.

* Lift/move heavy equipment and objects as needed.

* Properly use and care for hand and power tools.
