The Parking Utility maintains over 15 public parking lots, 20 blocks of on-street parking meters, 500 off-street parking meters, several acres of lawn maintenance at the Industrial Park, weed control in downtown, and flower planter watering and maintenance.Shoreline Metro and the Parking Utility are under the authority of the Sheboygan Transit Commission.The Parking Utility Maintenance Worker performs essential day-to-day duties including daily upkeep of parking utility lots, revenue capture devices and other key maintenance areas such as Riverfront and South Pier. The work is performed in accordance with established procedures and accepted trade practices and requires safe work habits. The Parking Utility Grounds and Maintenance Worker performs all work in an efficient, effective and safe manner and is an important part of the Parking Utility division.The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. General working conditions are 90% outdoors and 10% in Parking Utility vehicles performing essential duties. The change in work can change from day-today with little to no advance warning due to the ever-changing demands and needs of the department.Generally, this position works 6:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. Responsibilities
- Perform regular maintenance on areas maintained by the Parking Utility including lawn cutting, trimming, snow removal, salting, painting, garbage removal, weed control, watering and lot sweeping.
- Perform regular maintenance on all Parking Utility vehicles and equipment and make sure all equipment is in proper working order at all times (if necessary).
- Provide oversight of day-to-day activities in the absence of the Parking Utility Lead Maintenance Worker and division supervisor.
- Perform repairs on meters and other revenue capturing devices as needed.
- Maintain a clean, organized and safe work area for all department employees.
- Provide guidance and assistance to the department seasonal staff.
- Maintain accurate records on vehicles, equipment and lots.
- Observe and promote safety regulations for the department.
- Fuel and wash equipment (as necessary).
- Report to work each workday on or before designated check-in time in proper attire including steel toed safety boots, slacks or jeans, short or long-sleeved shirt and personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Act as a professional representative of Shoreline Metro and the City of Sheboygan.
- Work in a team environment and be able to work with little or no supervision at times.
- Be available outside of normal work hours to assist with emergency situations.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Education & Experience
- High school diploma or GED; related vocational schooling or advanced degrees and training preferred.
- Valid Class D driver's license.
- Must have a safe driving record.
- Must have 1-3 years minimum experience in a maintenance position preferably grounds maintenance, landscaping or grounds keeping.
Qualifications & Skills
- Must be able to demonstrate an ability to read, understand, retain and recite information in training manuals, notices and standard operating procedures.
- Must be proficient in computer skills including Microsoft Office and possess excellent math, writing and communication skills.
- Must be able to work a flexible schedule including nights, weekends, extra hours and/or overtime as required by division needs and must be available for on-call or emergency work.
- Must successfully complete pre-employment drug test and physical exam, orientation training and 6-month probationary period.
- Must have the ability to communicate effectively in written and verbal form.
- Provide effective and courteous customer service.
- Must have ability to act, make decisions, and justify action based on rational thought, good judgment, and logical thought.
- Thorough knowledge of the methods, materials, tools and equipment used in the maintenance and day-to-day activities and duties of the Parking Utility.
- Awareness of occupational hazards, environmental regulations and safe work practices.
- Ability to work efficiently from computers, schematics, charts, manuals, and written or verbal instruction.
- Ability to safely lift up to 75 lbs.
- Ability to work outdoors in adverse weather conditions.
- Capable of repeated standing, bending, kneeling, reaching and pushing.
Pre-Employment:
- Must pass a State of Wisconsin Department of Motor Vehicle background check with no DUI convictions within the past ten (10) years if required to possess CDL.
- Must pass a State of Wisconsin Criminal background check.

- Must pass a physical examination and maintain those standards as a condition of employment.
