GROUNDS STUDENT WORKER
MINIMUM EDUCATION REQUIRED
1. High school graduate or equivalent.
EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING
1. Standard home/lawn and garden experience preferred.
2. Knowledge of principles and practices of general management; methods, material, and equipment used in grounds maintenance, safe work practices,
and health and safety regulations and procedures; operations of light grounds equipment and of hand and power tools preferred.
3. Experience working with landscape equipment such as weed eaters, edgers, and blowers preferred.
4. Able to perform heavy lifting.
TRAINING TIME
1. Two weeks to perform all job-related duties with minimal supervision.
DUTIES AND OTHER JOB-RELATED ACTIVITIES
1. Requires physical work on all grounds projects as well as the daily operations, and any other grounds needs that requires physical labor and manual lifting.
2. Provides day-to-day coordination of maintenance of physical grounds in a clean and aesthetically appealing manner.
3. Establishes and maintains cooperative and effective working relationships with university personnel and with outside contractors.
4. Works with outside contractors as it relates to the grounds of the university.
5. Works with light machinery with moving parts, chemicals, dust, and outside weather conditions which may include inclement weather and high or low
temperature conditions.
6. Lifts and moves supplies, equipment, and material, as needed, up to 100 pounds: bends, crawls, or climbs as required.
7. Listens and comprehends written instructions and follows oral and written directions.
8. Organizes, conveys, and presents ideas and data clearly, concisely, and accurately in written and oral presentations.
9. Maintains physical activity over prolonged periods of time.
10. Drives a golf cart, RTV, and operates all other grounds light duty equipment with skill and ability.
11. Performs related duties as assigned.
