Job Description:
Fulfills the mission of Norwich University by overseeing all aspects of year-round maintenance of campus grounds, roads, walkways, and parking lots. Oversees all aspects of University transportation and fleet vehicle operation, maintenance, and administration.
Salary: $58,656/year or more depending on experience.
Essential Functions
* Oversees all full-time and seasonal landscapes on university property to include athletic playing surfaces, lawns, outdoor stairs, walkways, landscape beds, hedges, trees, associated green spaces, roads, parking lots and snow removal.
* Contracts, supervises, and evaluates landscape and tree maintenance contractors.
* Prepares requisitions, orders landscape materials, tools, and equipment.
* Prepares annual equipment recommendations, and develops project estimates as required.
* Establishes and implements tool and equipment preventative, and routine maintenance programs.
* Develops and directs all campus snow and ice removal schedules, procedures and activities.
* Provides input on landscape designs, prepares recommendations, may install plantings in areas of new construction and renovates existing plantings.
* Performs all duties in a safe and professional manner and in accordance with established Norwich University and departmental policies and procedures.
* Assists with General Services and Recycling work areas.
* Assists with maintenance work as requested, including event set-up and clean up, moving furniture, truck loading and unloading, grounds maintenance
* Oversees and prioritizes the maintenance of all University's vehicles and equipment including inspection of vehicles and equipment for safety hazard, repair.
* Supervises and determines vehicles replacement part/equipment requirements with specifications and pricing, completes requisitions, orders materials.
* Coordinates and arranges rental buses for University group with outside vendors.
* Prepares vehicle trip tickets and arranges billing.
* Manages online driver's training program.
* Reports all accidents to insurance company.
* Supervises background checks and maintains list of certified drivers.
* Performs associated Facilities Operation maintenance work as requested, including event set-up and clean up, moving furniture, truck loading and unloading, grounds maintenance
* Assists with General Services and Recycling work areas.
* Performs all duties in a safe and professional manner and in accordance with established Norwich University and departmental policies and procedures.

* Assesses the performance of direct reports and provides frequent feedback to optimize their performance.
* Maintains confidentiality of sensitive or private information.
* Communicates with employees, students, and others in a respectful and clear manner.
* Serves on University committees, councils, workgroups, or other designated bodies as assigned.
* Achieves, maintains proficiency in, and utilizes computers, telephones, and other job-related equipment, including related systems and software.
* Speaks, reads, and writes in English.
* Communicates by telephone, email, letter, in person, or other means or device.
* Performs other tasks as assigned by supervisor.
Requirements:
* High school diploma or equivalent required. Some college coursework preferred.
* 3 years of experience in grounds or athletic field maintenance or 1 year of supervisory experience. Prior experience with fleet vehicle operation, maintenance, and administration a plus.
* Knowledge of grounds maintenance techniques, gardening, and soil requirements for planting.
* Knowledge and experience in heavy and light equipment operation and maintenance.
* Valid state driver's license.
* Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, SharePoint, Teams, and Outlook)
* Able to sit, squat, reach, push, pull, and manipulate related equipment; lift 50 pounds; travel outdoors to various parts of the campus
* Work some evening or weekend hours
Environmental Conditions
* Indoor work at a computer workstation and outdoor work in all weather conditions.
* High level of exposure to noise, dust, fumes, vibrations, and temperature changes.
