Salary: $37,129.00 AnnuallyLocation : New Bern, NCJob Type: Full-TimeJob Number: 10902Department: MaintenanceOpening Date: 09/12/2024Closing Date: ContinuousPrimary Purpose Performs a variety of grounds work, heavy duty housekeeping and limited general maintenance duties. Essential Functions Follows daily duty assignments and schedules of the housekeeping and grounds division.Mows lawns; trims and edges around walkways, flower beds and fences; operates and maintains lawn mowers and some power and hand tools.Keeps the parking lot and sidewalks free of debris and miscellaneous trash.Assists in the cleaning of buildings; vacuums, mops, sweeps, dusts, cleans restrooms and restroom fixtures, cleans windows and spot cleans carpet.Performs various limited carpentry repairs. Minimum Education and Experience High School Diploma or equivalent and at least two years' experience in custodial and/or building and grounds maintenance. Some knowledge of the hazards and applicable safety requirements associated with grounds keeping and custodial maintenance. Must have a valid North Carolina driver's license. Pesticide license is preferred.Knowledge, Skills, and AbilitiesGeneral knowledge of the standard practices, materials and equipment related to grounds maintenance and landscaping.Considerable knowledge of cleaning procedures, products and expected results.Considerable knowledge of the operation of tractors and mowers.Considerable knowledge of the safe and proper use and maintenance of various hand and power tools used in building and grounds maintenance work.Ability to use motorized machinery, power and hand tools, and cleaning supplies effectively.Ability to maintain effective working relationships as necessitated by work assignmentsAbility to understand and follow oral and written instructions.Ability performs physical labor for extended periods of time, possibly under arduous conditions.Must possess basic personal computer skills to use the electronic work order system to track and maintain work requests Additional Information Assists in locking and unlocking facilities as scheduled.Performs related work as required.May be required to serve during times of disaster.Physical RequirementsMust be able to perform basic life functions of climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, reaching, standing, walking, grasping, pushing, pulling, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions.Must be able to perform medium work exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.Must have visual acuity to operate tractors, mowers and various hand and power tools. Employees have the option to purchase additional disability insurance at their own cost.North Carolina Local Governmental Employees' Retirement SystemEligible employees are automatically enrolled in the retirement system and must contribute 6% of their gross salary each pay period. Once eligibility requirements are met, employees will be able to receive monthly payments for life based on their salary, age, and years of service credit.NC401kCraven County contributes 2% of eligible employees' gross salary into the 401(k) account regardless of the employee's deferral amount. In addition, the County matches employee deferrals up to an additional 3%. Annual LeaveRegular full-time employees earn annual leave based upon years of service. Eligible employees begin to accrue annual leave as soon as they start but must complete a six month probationary period before they are eligible to use annual leave.
  • Less than two years of service earns 10 days per year.
  • Two but less than five years of service earns 12 days per year.
  • Five but less than 10 years of service earns 15 days per year.
  • 10 but less than 20 years of service earns 18 days per year.
  • 20 or more years of service earns 20 days per year.
Sick LeaveRegular full-time employees earn 3.69 hours of sick leave per pay period. Craven County accepts eligible sick leave from the State of North Carolina, any of its political subdivisions, any local government entity or authority, or municipality in North Carolina.Paid HolidaysCounty employees receive 11-14 paid holidays annually. The Board of County Commissioners may adjust the holiday schedule as deemed necessary.LongevityEligible employees earn $200 in longevity after five years of service by October 31 of the qualifying year. Longevity benefits increase $25 per year up to a maximum of $1,000.Merit ProgramCraven County offers a merit program. Up to 56% of eligible employees may receive a performance-based merit increase each year.Supplemental BenefitsCounty employees are also offered a variety of supplemental benefits to select at their own expense such as Life Insurance, Vision Insurance, Flexible Spending Accounts, Critical Care policies, Cancer policies, Long-term Care policies, Hospitalization policies, 457b Deferred Compensation Plan and Aflac.Employee benefits are subject to change or may be contingent upon funding availability.
