About this roleResponsible for performing various duties related to maintaining the grounds and landscaping of the College, including cutting and edging lawn areas using lawn maintenance equipment. Maintains and installs landscape materials and ornamental plants. Operates skid steer, scissor lift, bucket truck, small dump truck, and other light equipment used in care of grounds. Works rotating weekends and a fluctuating schedule including evenings, weekends, and college closings.What a day of a Groundskeeper II looks like:
  • Cuts and edges lawn areas using manual and ride-on lawn mowers, tractors, weed eaters, edger's or other lawn maintenance equipment.
  • Maintains areas of campus with ornamental plants by hand weeding, pruning, trimming trees and shrubs. Installs landscaping materials including sod, plants, mulch and trees to provide neat and attractive grounds.
  • Keeps department and campus facilities in clean, litter-free and in an orderly condition, to include parking lots and external building areas. Performs general clean up or grounds keeping duties according to the needs of the department. Hauls collected debris to onsite refuse collection location.
  • Routinely operates light equipment and various attachments including dump truck, bucket trucks and other related equipment.
  • Places cigarette urns in appropriate areas on campus, replace broken urns and change urns as required.
  • Washes related equipment and vehicles used within the scope of the job, as needed.
  • Performs preventative maintenance on grounds equipment consistent with equipment recommendations. Repairs and replaces defective parts from related equipment, as needed.
  • Performs preventive maintenance on college vehicles such as checking battery and radiator fluid levels restoring water or other fluid when necessary. Inspects equipment and machinery for safe operation. Reports any observed problems to supervisor.
  • Plans, directs, and controls the work of people who do not report directly to you, but who provide support to the goals and objectives of your organization.
  • Maintains and perform in a safe workplace. Follows established safety practices.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

  • High school diploma or GED
  • One year of related experience
Knowledge of:
  • Microsoft Office Professional or similar application
  • General knowledge of various invasive non- native plants
  • General knowledge of irrigation and repairs
Skilled in:
  • Delivering a high level of customer service
  • Organize and prioritize multiple, competing priorities to maximize personal and team effectiveness
Ability to:
  • Use a variety hand and power tools, machines, and equipment
Licenses, Registration, Certifications, or Special Requirements:
  • Regular physical attendance required
  • Valid Florida driver's license
Work Environment and Physical Demand:
  • Lift, carry, push, pull, install or remove objects weighing 20 to 49 pounds
  • Lift, carry, push, pull, install or remove objects weighing in excess of 50 pounds
  • Reach and grasp objects
  • Stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, or crawl
  • Stand for extended periods of time
  • Use of manual dexterity and fine motor skill
  • Identify and distinguish colors and shades of color
  • Communicate information orally and in writing
  • Receive and understand information through oral and written communication
  • Work with equipment or perform procedures where carelessness may result in injury
  • Experience exposure to uncomfortable work environment due to extreme temperature, noise level and other conditions
