Specific Expectations for Operations Staff: In addition to duties and essential job functions listed in job descriptions, the following responsibilities are expected of all employees in the Operations department:
- All staff are expected to maintain their school issued tools and equipment in good working order at all times
- All staff are expected to wear the appropriate uniform during their working hours
- All staff are expected to be available to work beyond the regular work schedule as directed and approved by their supervisor
- All staff are required to wear personal protective equipment for jobs requiring a certain level of protection
- All staff must complete training on all equipment used for their job function prior to using the equipment
- All staff are required to submit time-off requests two weeks prior to date(s) requested. All requests will be considered on a case-by-case basis according to business need
- All staff are required to coordinate job duty responsibilities with their manager prior to taking scheduled time off
- All staff are responsible for policing their assigned areas for hazards, cleanliness and maintenance and addressing as necessary or escalating it to the appropriate resolution channel
- All staff are required to notify their supervisor immediately if an unsafe condition is discovered or encountered
- All staff are required to work safely and in accordance with local, state and federal laws, industry standards and School directed safe practices
- All employees will be paid appropriately and according to current law. If staff are required to work outside of regular work schedule; non-exempt employees will receive overtime pay, as eligible
Essential Duties:
- Performs the maintenance and care for school grounds and turf sports fields including but not limited to football, baseball, lacrosse, soccer fields, etc.
- Inspects flowers, shrubs, trees, lawns and natural & artificial turf for evidence of insects, fungi and other pests
- Maintains and prunes foliage, plants, flowers, trees and open areas
- Mows school grounds and athletic fields with hand and power mowers; prunes trees and trims hedges to promote growth, plant health & improve appearance
- Applies fertilizers and weed control chemicals & products in compliance with the law
- Maintains, repairs and connects sprinkling equipment - waters lawns, athletic fields, and flower beds and works on building related equipment as required
- Adjusts and repairs equipment such as lawnmowers, sprinklers, and other lawn equipment & tools
- Assists with traffic control, crosswalk duties and related assignments
- Cleans, sanitizes assigned areas following safety and departmental procedures
- Handles emergency situations as they occur
- Other duties as assigned by the Facilities Manager
- Drives/transports school van shuttle
- Contribute positively to team, morale maintaining a positive, pleasant demeanor
- A clear commitment to the mission of the school as articulated in the Goals and Criteria of Sacred Heart Schools
Qualifications:
- High School diploma or equivalent- a combination of education and experience can be substituted for a high school diploma
- A minimum of two years of experience in a similar position, is preferred
- Proficiency maintaining various types of landscaping and athletic fields
- Proven ability to work equally well as a team member and individually
- Demonstrated excellent attendance and punctuality
- Must be available to work occasional overtime on evening and weekend events
- Ability to apply common sense understanding and to carry out instructions furnished in written or oral form
- Ability to communicate effectively with all constituents in a school environment. Conversant in Spanish is preferred
Physical Requirements and Work Environment
- Regularly operates a variety of power tools and equipment
- Regularly stoops, crawls, kneels, pushes, pulls and reaches
- Ability to travel safely and comfortably across the 63-acre campus
- May climb ladders including to roof tops
- Be able to regularly life up to 70 lbs. while using proper lifting techniques
- Regularly uses close and distance vision
- Works in a wide variety of environments as found in all areas of the school, the Operations Department and cross-functionally with other groups on campus
