Salary: $16.14 HourlyLocation : TX 75702, TXJob Type: Regular Full-timeJob Number: 994920Department: Police DepartmentOpening Date: 09/27/2024Purpose Of PositionThis position maintains the grounds of downtown facilities, to include Police Department buildings, City Hall, City University, Finance, Water Utilities, and Development Services. Handles daily duties in the downtown area, as assigned by the Police Services Coordinator. Assistance is provided by picking up litter, operating and providing light maintenance for power equipment and hand tools. Work schedule is Monday thru Friday, 8:00am to 4:30pm but may vary. Essential Functions
- Must have the ability to safely utilize small push and riding mowers, spin trimmers, leaf blowers and assorted hand tools.
- Must have the knowledge to maintain and service assigned power equipment and hand tools.
- Responsible for mowing, weed eating, debris clean up, minor irrigation repair, trash removal, cleaning of facilities, operating equipment, and assisting relevant city departments, where needed.
- Responsible for mowing small turf areas at designated facility locations, and other areas as assigned.
- Must be able to properly trim plants and remove dead plants.
- Must be able to cut tree limbs and remove dead tree limbs.
- Must be able to safely operate a car, truck and/or a small all-terrain maintenance vehicle.
- Must have the ability and knowledge to operate a vehicle while towing a small trailer.
- Must be able to work with Police Services Coordinator and Police Courier in the performance of tasks.
- Must have the knowledge of departmental regulations pertaining to tasks.
- Must be able to effectively communicate with all employees, including co-workers and supervisors by radio and telephone.
- Responsible for cleaning work areas and equipment once work is accomplished.
- Must be able to stand up to 6 hours daily.
- Must be able to sit up to 6 hours daily.
- Must be able to walk up to 4 hours daily.
- Must be able to bend, stoop, twist, turn, climb, crouch, balance or kneel up to 30 minutes daily.
- Must be able to pull, push, lift and carry 50-lbs.
- Must be able to work in various weather conditions, including extreme heat and cold, temperature changes, humidity, heights, vibration, wetness, dryness, noises 80 dB and over, fumes, dust, chemicals, allergens, detergents, mechanical hazards, and moving objects.
- Other duties as assigned.
Minimum QualificationsEducation and Experience: High School Diploma or GED preferred. Must have one (1) year of experience in maintenance of grounds, including but not limited to: operating tools, mowers and related lawn and landscaping equipment. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. Must possess a valid Texas Class C Driver's License with a clear driving record. Background Investigation: Applicant will be required to complete pre-employment testing and the appropriate release paperwork to initiate a required background investigation.The City of Tyler believes in putting people first.
