Job Description:Position Summary:The Groundskeeper independently performs a variety of assigned duties related to the groundskeeping operations on Harvey Mudd College's property. This position performs routine and non-routine duties; assists with the maintenance of outdoor lighting, walkways, patios, signs, irrigation systems, outdoor athletic courts, and fields; and establishes and maintains a variety of plant life. The Groundskeeper is expected to safely use and maintain all related groundskeeping equipment and perform a variety of tasks requiring physical dexterity, safe work practices, and a knowledge of groundskeeping chemicals, methods, procedures, supplies and equipment.

Duties and Responsibilities: - Mow lawns; rake leaves; sweep walkways; plant, cultivate, fertilize, prune, trim and otherwise maintain lawns, flowers, ground covers, shrubs, and trees.
- Use powered blowers, lawn mowers, edgers, hedge trimmers and other powered equipment.
- Under close supervision, apply weed control chemicals. Set out bait and/or traps for gophers, ground squirrels and the like, and dispose of carcasses in accordance with procedures.
- Disposes of trash and other debris; remove graffiti.
- Maintain powered and non-powered equipment and tools.
- Clean building roofs and gutters; remove and dispose of trash and other roof debris.
- Maintain inventory of all assigned tools, supplies and equipment.
- Participate in composting and mulching activities.
- Participate in marking of athletics fields.
- Performs minor repairs, including minor plumbing, irrigation, mechanical or electrical repairs, related to the maintenance of the grounds.
- Participate in emergency response training and activities; respond to emergency situations, including turning off water and gas and other appropriate actions.
- Report repairs as needed.
- Other duties and projects as assigned.
- Perform other essential duties and tasks specific to the position.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:- Knowledge of maintenance, use, safe operation and repair of cleaning supplies, and tools and equipment. Knowledge of cleaning chemicals and safe work practices and procedures.

Qualifications:Education: Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school or any combination of education, training or experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and ability.
Experience: Requires minimum of one-year paid employment experience in groundskeeping assignments.
Licenses/Certifications: Must possess and maintains a valid driver's license and driving record acceptable to the College's automobile insurance carrier.

Hours: Assignments include day shifts; (e.g. Monday - Friday 6:00 a.m. - 2:30 p.m.); swing shifts and graveyard shifts and may be required. Hours may vary due to the needs of the department or College. Must be able and willing to work weekends and holidays as assigned.
Classification: This is a full-time, benefits-eligible, non-exempt position.
Compensation: The anticipated starting hourly pay range will be $21.00 - $21.95 per hour. Compensation will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
Grooming and Appearance: The College always seeks to maintain a neat and professional image. A uniform is provided and required. Good personal hygiene is required. Use of personal protective equipment and other safety equipment will be provided when required by an assignment.
Tests: A functional capacity test and background check is required.
Reporting: This position reports to the Grounds Services Manager.
