Primary Purpose: Successfully direct assigned sport allowing students to excel and develop proper skills and attitude. Direct and manage the boys extracurricular program. Provide students with appropriate learning activities and experiences designed to help them fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth. Enable students to develop competencies and skills to function successfully in society. Minimum Qualifications: Education/Certification: Valid Texas teaching certificate Maintain current CPR and Automated External Defibrillator (AED) certificate Valid Texas driver's license with a good driving record (must meet and maintain liability coverage eligibility) Clear and valid Texas commercial driver's license with Passenger (p) and School Bus (S) endorsement (or obtain within the first 120 days of employment) Candidate must have satisfactory outcome of fingerprinting background check. Non-refundable fee (approximately $50.00) paid by the employee. Organization Management The Head Football Coach/Boys Athletics Coordinator manages administrative, fiscal, and facilities functions responsibly through activities such as the following:
  • Compile budget and cost estimates on program needs.
  • Manage the boys athletic program budgets and ensure that programs are cost effective and that funds are managed prudently.
  • Assume responsibility for compiling, maintaining and filing all reports, records and other documents required in the operation of the boys athletic program.
  • Supervise all boys athletics fundraisers.
  • Maintain the athletic policies and work with coaches and Athletic Director to publish, implement and update coaches' handbooks and athletic codes and make recommendations for change when necessary.
  • Responsible for the general management, use, care, and maintenance of designated athletic fields and facilities, in coordination with the DVISD Maintenance Department and Athletic Director.
  • Coordinate the rental use of all athletic facilities by non-school groups and post-season play.
  • Monitor the summer repairs and upgrades of outdoor athletic facilities on high school and middle school campuses.
  • Responsible for the storage, inventory, supervision, and maintenance requests for all boys athletic equipment, fixtures and properties of the Athletic Department.
  • Coordinate game management for all boys home athletic events as well as additional tournaments/meets held within the district, to include coordinating event supervisors, scheduling and payment of game workers, officials, security, and ensuring preparation of facilities.
  • Work with the boys Athletic Coordinator to coordinate all campus level athletic schedules.
  • Oversee leagues, camps, open gym and clinics held by boys athletics coaches and sponsors of extracurricular activities in accordance with district policy, to include assigning supervision of off-season and summer programs.
Organization Improvement The Head Football Coach/Boys Athletics Coordinator promotes efforts to improve the school or organization through activities such as the following:
  • Under the direction of the Athletic Director, attend and represent the district at all athletic and campus organizational meetings to ensure that the district Athletic Department philosophy and policies are being represented.
  • Attend all Middle School DEC meetings.
  • Develop and maintain vertical alignment between high school and middle schools within each sport in order to develop competitive programs.
  • Develop and implement a schedule for visiting middle school coaches and programs for effective vertical alignment.
  • Create a classroom environment conducive to learning appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students.
  • Manage students' behavior in accordance with Student Code of Conduct and student handbook.
  • Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities.
  • Assist in selection of books, equipment, and other instructional materials.
Organization Climate The Head Football Coach/Boys Athletics Coordinator fosters a positive school organizational climate through activities such as the following:
  • Provide a safe practice environment for athletes by organizing, supervising, coordinating and evaluating practice sessions and related activities with attention to individual and group safety.
  • Implement a leadership program as defined by the Athletic Director.
  • Ensure that all boys athletic department staff are properly participating in the Character Education/Leadership Program for all middle school and high school male athletes and Community Service Program for all high school boys programs.
  • Conduct ongoing assessment of student achievement through formal and informal testing.
  • Be a positive role model for students, support the mission of the school district.
  • Help students analyze and improve study methods and habits.
Instructional Management The Head Football Coach/Boys Athletics Coordinator promotes improvement of instruction through activities such as the following:
  • Demonstrate knowledge in the sport by staying informed and teaching current techniques and strategies.
  • Use a variety of instructional techniques and media to meet the needs and improve the abilities of student athletes in the sport assigned
  • Establish the fundamental philosophy, skill and knowledge to be taught to the athletes in the program.
  • Provide materials, drills and information to program coaches and meet with middle school and high school staff before and after the season to evaluate program effectiveness
  • Prepare well-organized, written practice plans which utilize his/her staff and team to its maximum potential
  • Develop and implement lesson plans that fulfill the requirements of the district curriculum program and show written evidence of preparation as required.
  • Prepare lessons that reflect accommodations for differences in student learning styles.
  • Present subject matter according to guidelines established by federal regulations, Texas Education Agency, board policies, and administrative regulations.
  • Plan and use appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, and equipment that reflect understanding of the diverse needs of students assigned.
  • Work cooperatively with other teachers to modify curricula as needed for students with special needs (i.e., Special Education, 504, Bilingual).
  • Work with other members of staff to determine instructional goals, objectives, and methods according to district requirements.
  • Conduct assessment of student learning styles and use results to plan instructional activities.
  • Use technology to strengthen the teaching/learning process.
Communication and Community Relations The Head Football Coach/Boys Athletics Coordinator promotes a positive tone for school or community relations through activities such as the following:
  • Collaborate with parents, school administrators, coaches, and athletes to promote student success and by ensuring that all DVISD athletic staff follow and implement the DVISD Academic Plan for Athletes.
  • Promote all sports in the athletic program, foster school spirit and pride, and encourage participation by all boys athletic staff in athletic related school functions.
  • Articulate the district's mission and goals in the area of athletics to the community and solicit its support in realizing the mission.
  • Promote a positive environment and image for the athletic program through effective interpersonal relationships with administration, faculty, parents, teachers, and community leaders.
  • Seek support for school programs by being involved in community activities that foster rapport between the school district and the larger community.
Personnel Relations/Management The Head Football Coach/Boys Athletics Coordinator manages personnel effectively through activities such as the following:
  • Responsible for the coordination, administration, and supervision of the DVISD boys athletic programs in cooperation with the Athletic Director, Campus Principals, and head coaches.
  • Recruit, select, train, supervise, and evaluate all boys athletic department personnel and make sound recommendations about personnel placement, assignments, retention, discipline and dismissal, in conjunction with the Campus Principal and the Athletic Director.
  • Mediate the resolution of problems, issues and concerns that may arise between coaches and athletic programs.
Student Management The Head Football Coach/Boys Athletics Coordinator student management through activities such as the following:
  • Accompany and supervise student athletes during athletic competitions in assigned sports both at-home and on out-of-town trips.
  • Apply and enforce student discipline during athletic contests, practice sessions, and while on trips off school property in accordance with Student Code of Conduct and student handbook.
  • Encourage, by example and through instruction, sportsmanlike conduct in all phases of athletic participation.
Professional Growth and Development The Head Football Coach/Boys Athletics Coordinator provides leadership in professional growth and development through activities such as the following:
  • Participate in national and state level organizations to stay abreast of latest research and best practices.
  • Attend meetings and conferences concerning UIL policies and procedures when necessary.
  • Attend professional conferences to keep current on trends in interscholastic athletics.
  • Assist in planning and implementation of coach/staff development programs.
  • Participate in all meetings and staff development activities to improve job-related skills.
Qualities of Effective Head Football Coach/Boys Athletics Coordinator The Head Football Coach/Boys Athletics Coordinator exhibits qualities such as the following:

  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Athletic Director and Campus Principal.
Supervisory Responsibilities: Supervision of all football coaches. Assist the Athletic Director in the supervision of all boys athletics coaches. Equipment: Personal computer, printer, calculator, telephone, copier, fax machine, scanner, coaching resource materials and instructional equipment, automated external defibrillator, school bus operation, and other equipment applicable to the position.   • Work irregular and extended work hours to include holidays and weekends.
  • Maintain emotional control under stress.
