Requirements:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Four years of experience and/or training in grounds maintenance work, of which two years involved supervisory experience over subordinates; or one year as a Supervisor of Grounds. Possess a valid New York State Class B (or higher) driver's license appropriate for the type of vehicle to be operated. Possess both 3a and 7a licenses or certifications to apply pesticides, herbicides and other treatments. This position may be filled from a mandatory reemployment list if one is in effect at the time of appointment. Candidates may be expected to be qualified to use negative pressure respirators.

OPERATING NEEDS:

NYS CDL Class B (or higher) Drivers License and 3a and 7a Pesticide Applicator Licenses or certifications required at the time of job offer and as a condition of continued employment; Ability to supervise a staff in various positions (Facility Operations Assistant 1, Facility Operations Assistant 2, Motor Vehicle Operator, Construction Equipment Operator, Supervisor of Grounds, Trades Generalist); provide training to staff on the AiM system, TAS and other computer software (ex. GIS, etc.); ability to perform duties utilizing various computer software (Microsoft office suite, AIM, TAS, email-Microsoft outlook, Microsoft Teams, and Zoom); Ability to operate heavy equipment / machinery appropriate for the title (ex. backhoe for emergency digs, etc.); Ability to assess Grounds vehicles and equipment for maintenance and repairs ensuring all are in proper working condition and provide necessary training to all staff on the safe operation of vehicles and equipment in the Grounds Department; Ability to manage multiple projects successfully; Ability to collaborate with other units on campus (Residential Life and others), respond to emergencies (flooding, snowstorm, fallen trees, damaged fencing, property damage), and collaborate with vendors to requisition equipment / supplies; Ability to develop a robust preventive maintenance program for pest control (IPM Program); experience working on different events on campus / allocating signs for different events.

Appointment will be contingent upon successful completion of pre-employment testing for controlled substance use as mandated by the Federal Highway Administration Omnibus Transportation Act of 1991 (OTETA). Employment cannot commence until notification for successful completion of this pre-employment testing is received. Please note that in addition to the initial testing required by OTETA, the Act further requires that the University conduct pre-assignment (promotion), reasonable suspicion, post-accident, random, follow-up and return to duty drug and alcohol testing throughout the period of employment.
