Incumbent must be available to work a flexible/variable schedule based on program schedule and class scheduling of student-athletes.Veteran Preference Statement: South Carolina is making our Veterans a priority for employment in state agencies and institutions.Job ResponsibilitiesDenmark Technical College is seeking an experienced and motivated individual to serve as the Head Baseball Coach for its newly established NJCAA baseball program. This individual will be responsible for building the program from the ground up, including recruiting student-athletes, developing team culture, organizing practices, and managing game-day operations. The Head Baseball Coach will play a vital role in fostering academic and athletic success, adhering to NJCAA regulations, and promoting sportsmanship and personal development among players. This is a part-time position.Program Development and Leadership
  • Builds and establishes the college's baseball program, including recruiting and signing student-athletes to form the inaugural team.
  • Creates and implement a comprehensive baseball program that emphasizes athletic performance, academic achievement, and character development.
  • Develops a competitive schedule that includes games, tournaments, and scrimmages within NJCAA guidelines.
  • Collaborates with the Athletic Director to ensure all aspects of the program align with institutional and NJCAA standards.
Coaching and Team Management
  • Plans, organizes, and lead team practices, conditioning sessions, and game-day strategies.
  • Teaches fundamental and advanced baseball skills, emphasizing player development and teamwork.
  • Provides individualized coaching and mentoring to support the growth and performance of student-athletes.
  • Supervises and manages assistant coaches and team support staff.
Recruitment and Retention
  • Identifies, recruits, and retain academically and athletically qualified student-athletes.
  • Establishes and maintain strong relationships with high school coaches, travel programs, and community organizations to promote recruitment.
  • Monitors and supports the academic progress of student-athletes, ensuring compliance with NJCAA eligibility requirements.
Administrative Duties
  • Manages the baseball program's budget, including equipment purchases, travel expenses, and facility needs.
  • Coordinates team travel logistics, including transportation, lodging, and meals.
  • Maintains accurate records related to recruiting, player statistics, and program operations.
  • Promotes compliance with all NJCAA, institutional, and conference regulations, including rules regarding eligibility and conduct.
Community Engagement
  • Serves as a positive representative of Denmark Technical College and the baseball program in the local community.
  • Participates in fundraising, promotional, and community engagement activities to support the program.
  • Creates a welcoming and inclusive team culture that reflects the college's values of diversity, integrity, and excellence
Minimum and Additional Requirements
  • Associate's degree from an accredited institution.
  • Previous experience as a baseball coach at the high school, college, or equivalent level.
  • Knowledge of NJCAA rules and regulations.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work evenings, weekends, and travel as required.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in sports management, education, or a related field.
  • Experience building or managing a collegiate baseball program.
  • Proven success in recruiting and developing student-athletes.
  • Familiarity with strength and conditioning programs tailored for baseball athletes.
