Job Title: Head of Accounting

Location: New York City

Compensation: $150,000 to $225,000 Base + Bonus and Potential for Equity

Job Description:

We are currently representing a leading and growing international commodity firm that specializes in geothermal, energy, renewable, and power products.

The team is seeking a highly skilled accounting specialist to lead their Accounting function as the US Head of Accounting. This individual will possess strong expertise in commodity products and will be responsible for overseeing all accounting functions within the organization. This role requires effective communication with both internal and external stakeholders and will sit in a senior position reporting directly to the Global Head of Accounting.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Financial Reporting:
  • Prepare and review financial statements in accordance with GAAP/IFRS.
  • Ensure timely and accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting.
  • Coordinate with external auditors for annual audits and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • General Ledger Management:
  • Maintain and reconcile the general ledger accounts.
  • Oversee month-end and year-end close processes.
  • Ensure accuracy and completeness of all financial transactions.
  • Budgeting and Forecasting:
  • Develop and manage annual budgets and financial forecasts.
  • Monitor budget performance and provide variance analysis.
  • Collaborate with department heads to ensure alignment with financial goals.
  • Internal Controls:
  • Implement and maintain robust internal control systems.
  • Conduct regular reviews and assessments of internal controls.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies and procedures.
  • Tax Compliance:
  • Manage tax planning and compliance for international, federal, state, and local taxes.
  • Prepare and file tax returns and ensure timely payment of taxes.
  • Stay updated on changes in tax regulations and advise management accordingly.
  • Stakeholder Communication:
  • Liaise with internal stakeholders, including senior management and department heads, to provide financial insights and support.
  • Communicate with external stakeholders, such as auditors, tax authorities, and financial institutions.
  • Present financial reports and analysis to the board of directors and executive team.
  • Qualifications:

    • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA or equivalent certification preferred.
    • Minimum of 5 years of experience in accounting, with a focus on commodities, geothermal, and energy industries.
    • Strong knowledge of GAAP/IFRS and regulatory requirements.
    • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
    • Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Office Suite.
    • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
    • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
