Cornell University Library is seeking applications for the Head of Research & Learning Services, Olin & Uris Libraries.

The Opportunity: Cornell University Library seeks an experienced librarian as Head of the Research & Learning Services (RLS) department in Olin and Uris Libraries, a central research hub, newly renovated and located at the heart of campus. Reporting to the Director of Olin and Uris Libraries, they are a key member of the Olin/Uris leadership team and work with other departments in the Library and across campus to help envision, establish, monitor, and evaluate services and programs to advance Library and University priorities and values. This position will oversee the development, delivery, and assessment of services supporting scholarship in the humanities and social sciences, directly supervising five Research, Teaching, and Extension (RTE) faculty librarians while leading the entire department of 18 in the evolution of research and learning services. They will also administer training programs for employee education and wellbeing. As a Research, Teaching, and Extension (RTE) faculty member, this Head Librarian will engage in service, scholarship, and ongoing professional development to meet the requirements of promotion and reappointment at Cornell University Library.

Candidate Profile:

5-7 years of relevant professional experience, including 3-5 years of demonstrated successful professional supervisory experience, and a proven commitment to librarianship.

Demonstrated interest in or professional focus on reference and research services.

Proven experience in creating training programs that address the ongoing education and wellbeing needs of diverse employees.

Experience in and/or demonstrated commitment to fostering learning, research, service and/or outreach in communities of patrons with wide-ranging identities and goals.

Experience in developing and implementing innovative programs with a user-centered approach to designing services.

A master's degree in library and/or information science from an ALA-accredited institution or an advanced degree in a relevant discipline.

Demonstrated strategies for conveying complex and nuanced ideas.

Additionally, we would prefer applicants who have an interest or background in emerging focus areas and technologies and how they intersect with research services, such as AI or critical digital literacies.

Work Location: This position is located in Ithaca, New York. The incumbent will typically work on the Ithaca campus a minimum of 4 days per week, with potential for entering into a flexible work arrangement to allow remote work 1 day per week. The university reserves the right to modify, suspend, revoke or terminate the hybrid work arrangement at any time.

We expect to fill this position at the academic rank of Associate Librarian. The anticipated salary range is $78,000-$110,000 and will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
