An experienced tax professional with in-depth domestic and international tax experience to support the rapid growth of our professional services firm. The Head of Tax Strategy & Compliance will be responsible for leading and developing the Company's tax compliance function. This individual will also provide decision making support for executive management for corporate issues and strategic initiatives. The position works closely with other cross-functional team members to deliver high quality business operations. This role will report to senior management within the finance group with a direct line to the CFO.

Responsibilities for this position include:

  • Lead and develop the internal tax team.
  • Manage the tax compliance and tax advisory functions.
  • Responsible for the timely filing of federal, state, local, and international tax returns, and extensions.
  • Coordination of response to federal, state and local inquiries and audits.
  • Ensure timely compliance with regulations and registration with tax authorities.
  • Maintain compliance for business and employee tax, including payroll and sales tax for international operations.
  • Advise on international entity structure and strategies to reduce tax burden and determining registrations and license requirements. Maintain all regulatory compliance when engaging in international projects and international businesses.
  • Partner with third-party tax service providers to recommend and implement tax optimization strategies.
  • Establish tax best practices.

Serve as a trusted business advisor.

  • Collaborate closely with the CFO and other senior leaders on emerging tax issues and opportunities, providing strategic tax advice.
  • Partner with business group leads to connect business issues with tax implications to optimize tax strategies for their projects and initiatives.
  • Lead special financial projects. Create and manage cross-functional teams to find comprehensive business solutions with a focus on tax implications.
  • Provide oversight and review of confidential income and income tax allocations. Prepare and/or review other partner and tax-related documents, ensuring accuracy and process compliance.
  • Maintain accounting for Company owners, compensation, and cash flow management, ensuring accurate and timely execution.
  • Maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive partner data with discretion, ensuring compliance with all relevant regulations.

Manage the business relationships with third-party tax service providers.

  • Primary point of contact with all third-party tax service providers. Develop and maintain beneficial and valued business partnership with providers.
  • Negotiate and manage the professional services contracts. Define scope of work and monitor provider performance.
  • Manage third-party tax services providers engaged in:
    • Preparation and filing of corporate federal, state and local tax returns, K-1s, foreign tax
    • Preparation and filing of individual income tax returns for Company Owners, including federal and state returns and composite state tax returns.
    • Global tax advisory services, including establishment of foreign entities to optimize domestic/foreign tax structure
    • Employee mobility and international payroll tax and income tax services
    • Tax advisory for mergers and acquisitions
    • Tax technology and consulting support

The ideal candidate has a minimum of fifteen years of experience in tax and business advisory roles, preferably within professional services organizations. Strong understanding of U.S. federal, state, and local taxation issues for flow-through and partnership tax structures. Experience with cash basis accounting and tax reporting a plus.

Strong awareness of the tax issues affecting international operations, including the process of researching and optimizing foreign entity structure and implementing tax compliance. Familiarity with international tax law, including transfer pricing concepts and permanent establishment considerations.

Experience partnering with and advising executive management. Proven ability to connect business and tax issues, providing strategic advice to senior leadership. Ability to think outside the box to drive continual improvement of the business.

Excellent communication, leadership and collaboration skills, with experience managing compliance teams.

Ability to handle confidential information with discretion and integrity.
