Team / Division Overview:

The Real Estate division of DWS is a full-service Real Estate manager with approximately EUR 60 billion AUM globally. DWS Real Estate acquires and manages investments in individual assets or Real Estate portfolios on behalf of funds and separate accounts.

The US Real Estate franchise is responsible for the origination, acquisition, asset management and disposition of Real Estate assets across the US for both Debt and Equity strategies. The team works on diverse tasks across various Real Estate asset classes such as office, industrial, retail, logistics, hotels and residential schemes.

Role Details:

As the Head of Underwriting and Structuring for Real Estate Debt, you will be responsible for:

  • Primary point of contact for overseeing the underwriting and structuring of debt transactions, ensuring sound risk assessment and optimal deal structures for commercial Real Estate investments.
  • Leveraging expertise in commercial Real Estate finance, credit analysis, and deal structuring, to play a critical role in driving the success of Debt financing initiatives and optimizing risk-adjusted returns.
  • Oversight of junior underwriters responsible for evaluating and structuring Real Estate debt investments, conducting comprehensive financial analysis, risk assessment, and due diligence.
  • Lead and mentor a team of debt underwriting professionals, fostering a culture of excellence, collaboration, and continuous learning.
  • Collaborate closely with key stakeholders, including asset management and legal teams, to ensure alignment of debt underwriting and structuring with overall investment strategies to provide consistent quality control.
  • Responsible for building out and managing the Real Estate debt underwriting framework, to include underwriting methodologies, models and scenario analysis.
  • Supporting the management of financial partners with responsibility for sourcing back leverage (e.g. repo, loan-on-loan).
  • Structuring and negotiating intercreditor agreements in cases of multiple tranches of debt or complex financing structures.
  • We are looking for:

  • Extensive experience in Real Estate finance, debt underwriting and commercial lending, with a focus on commercial Real Estate.
  • Strong understanding of financial analysis, credit risk assessment, and deal structuring principles.
  • Proven track record of successfully underwriting and structuring Real Estate debt transactions.
  • Excellent negotiation skills, with the ability to influence outcomes and build strong relationships with borrowers and counterparties.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate a team to achieve excellence.
  • Broad investment experience covering real Estate debt and equity with excellent knowledge of multiple Real Estate asset classes.
  • Experience working with multiple parties, debt instruments and confident in addressing legal, tax, accounting and financial issues within the commercial Real Estate sector.
  • Educated to degree level in a Finance related discipline from an accredited college or university (or equivalent) or an acceptable level of industry experience.

    The salary range for this position in New York City is $164,000 - $265,000. Actual salaries may be based on a number of factors including, but not limited to, a candidate's skill set, experience, education and other qualifications. Posted salary ranges do not include incentive compensation or any other type of remuneration.
