A lot about you

We are seeking a talented and experienced leader to build a team focused on visual journalism and data services for Yahoo Weather. This team will drive the development of strategic data services around weather including databases, maps and tools and will have responsibility for improving the technology and user experience of the Yahoo Weather site and apps.

As the leader of this team, you will play a pivotal role in managing a cross-functional team and setting priorities that will deliver user value and propel growth. Your primary objective will be to drive the development of visually engaging and informative weather content and features that provide value to users in Weather products and across the many products in the Yahoo ecosystem. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including editorial, product development, engineering, and data science, to create data and visually-based products and services that help our users understand the world around them and achieve their goals. This role will report to the Head of Visuals & Data Services.

Responsibilities:

• Team Leadership: Build and lead a high-performing team of visual journalists, designers, data analysts, and engineers. Provide mentorship, guidance, and support to foster professional growth and excellence within the team.
• Product Development: Work closely with product managers and engineers to drive the development of new features, tools, and technologies that enhance the Yahoo Weather product experience across platforms.
• Data Services: Develop and manage strategic weather data services and partnerships, including databases, lists, and tools, that empower the editorial team to leverage data-driven insights in their reporting and content creation.
• User Experience and Visual Design: Collaborate with product development and design teams to ensure that visual content seamlessly integrates with the overall user experience and adheres to brand guidelines.
• Innovation and Entrepreneurship: Stay up-to-date of industry trends, emerging technologies, and user needs to identify and capitalize on new data-led opportunities that deliver value to our users and drive business growth.

Qualifications:

• Product Development and Engineering: Familiarity with product methodologies and experience working collaboratively with development teams to deliver innovative solutions.
• Visual Design and User Experience: Proficiency in visual design principles, user experience design, and a keen eye for aesthetics. Demonstrated ability to create visually compelling content that engages and informs users.
• Weather Data Analysis: Solid background in data analysis techniques and tools and with weather topics, with the demonstrated ability to extract actionable insights from complex datasets and share them with users in intuitive, useful ways.
• Leadership and Team Management: Proven track record of effectively leading, coaching and managing cross-functional teams, fostering a collaborative and inclusive work environment.
• Strategic Thinking: Ability to think strategically and identify opportunities for leveraging data and visual storytelling to enhance user experience and achieve business objectives.
• Entrepreneurial Mindset: Strong entrepreneurial spirit with a passion for identifying and driving the development of new data-led opportunities that add value to users and contribute to business growth.
• Communication and Collaboration: Excellent communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with stakeholders at all levels, including executives, editors, and technical teams.

The compensation for this position ranges from $172,645.00 - $375,285.00/yr and will vary depending on factors such as your location, skills and experience. The compensation package may also include incentive compensation opportunities in the form of discretionary annual bonus or commissions, in addition to equity incentives.
