Job Description :
First Resources of Burlington is growing and we are searching for a dedicated Full-time Health and Safety Assistant.The ideal candidate would be responsible Responsible for assisting with the overall function of residential services to ensure a safe, healthy, and compliant environment for staff and individuals. Assist with training new staff at specific site locations, ensuring all medications/refills are secured (aiding Site Supervisors.)Essential Job Functions:
  • Provide and maintain constant communication with Area Coordinator and respective Supervisors about client care, site condition, program need, etc.
  • Collaborate with the team staying in constant communication with meetings, appointments and client related concerns.
  • Provide clerical support and training support to the residential department.
  • Understand, follow, and advocate for individual rights and ensure individual's health, safety, and welfare needs are met.
  • Responsible for completing documentation within 24 hours of services, related to medication sheets, seizure logs, petty cash tracking sheets, incident reports, and shift checklists.
  • Complete random site inspections and report findings to the Area Coordinator.
  • Check medications, medication records, and personal care sheets for accuracy.
  • Attend medical, psychiatric, and dental appointments with individuals as needed and properly documents each appointment.
  • Facilitate the ordering of medications/refills as prescribed and communicate with pharmacy about any changes, discrepancies, etc.
  • Complete regular audit of site medications to ensure proper documentation of medication administration by staff.
  • Responsible for ensuring medical supplies remain stocked in each respective location and that requests for supplies be reported to the Area Coordinator and Supervisor immediately.
  • Assist individuals in activities of daily living (ADL's), personal hygiene, laundry, housekeeping, and recreational/leisure activities and provide training to staff about appropriate supports regarding personal cares.
  • Completes site expectations according to training provided, direction from supervisor, and agency standards.
  • Responsible for reporting any health and safety concerns.
  • Provide transportation and accompany individuals during appointments and other trips into the community, as necessary.

  • Ensure that only non-aversive behavior management techniques are used as outlined in the behavior plans and report all incidents of suspected Individual's rights violations.
  • Participate in the organization's safety program, which includes, but is not limited to, emergency evacuation and disaster procedures. Must be capable of executing emergencies and evacuation procedures. May provide transportation in the event of an emergency.
  • Participates in the on-call rotation of a designated group. May be required to work direct care hours if coverage is not found during on-call period.
  • Fill in hours as needed and be willing to work a flexible schedule.
  • Ability to travel at least 25% of the time and to work occasional evenings and weekends for meetings and/or events.
  • Responsible for reviewing all passes on Medication Administration Record (MAR).
  • Must maintain a professional appearance and work effectively with people.
  • Responsible to maintain the highest level of confidentiality always.
  • Performs other related duties as required to accomplish the objectives of the position, as assigned.
Requirements:
  • Prefers a candidate with a least an Associate's Degree in Human Services or related field.
  • At least two (2) years' experience working with basic knowledge of Home and Community Based Services (HCBS) programs; Department of Inspections and Appeals (DIA) requirements, specific to Adult Day Care services.
  • Must possess basic knowledge of computers and computer-based programs.
  • Prior medical/nursing experience preferred.
  • Able to lift a minimum of 40 pounds without restrictions.
  • Successfully complete the established medication administration training and pass medications accordingly.
  • Must be able to obtain CPR/First Aid Certification within the initial 30 days of employment, and actively maintain certification throughout employment.
  • Must have valid driver's license and personal auto insurance as required by the State of Iowa and be insurable under the company's insurance.
