Position Type: Supporting - Administrative Associates/Heath Assistant Date Posted: 5/3/2023 Location: HEALTH SERVICES Closing Date: Open Until Filled Health Associate Pool Pay Grade: 603 Duty Days: 183 Salary Range: $24,888 - 29,983 Position Purpose Works under the immediate guidance and direction of a licensed Registered Nurse (RN) and/or Nurse Specialist V to maintain routine clinic records administer medication, preform specialized procedures, provide minor first aid care, and conduct health screenings. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONSHealth Services
  • Performs specialized health care procedures (e.g., catheterizations, tracheostomy care, diabetic care, and g-button feeding when ordered by the student's health care provider according to District policy and procedures) under the direction of a licensed Registered Nurse (RN) according to District policy and procedures.
  • Provides basic first aid and care for minor injuries and illnesses according to a detailed protocol established by Health Services
  • Administers medication to students according to board policy and District procedures
  • Assists with screening programs and accurately documents results as specified by District, state, and federal requirements; communicates findings to supervising school health staff for direction.
  • Escorts students to and from health clinic and assists students with disabilities as necessary.
  • Contacts parents of students who need to be picked up from school according to established Health Services protocols or as directed by the school nurse.
  • Contacts emergency medical services (EMS) according to established Health Services protocols or as directed by the school nurse.
  • Maintains an efficient and safe clinic including following infection control procedures as directed by the school nurse.
  • Uses Universal Precautions procedures when cleaning all body fluid spills and providing wound care.
  • Complies with policies established by federal and state laws, Texas Department of State Health Services rule, State Board of Education rule, and board policy.
  • Complies with all District and campus routines and regulations; maintains confidentiality.
  • Compiles, maintains, and files all reports, records, and other documents required, including clinic records and confidential student health records (e.g., health services in Student Information System [SIS], electronic medical record, immunization records, medication administration records, and individual student treatment records).
  • Maintains clinic supply inventory and requests supplies as needed.
  • Maintains certification for mandated screenings and Basic Life Support for Healthcare providers: Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and Automatic External Defibrillator (AED).
Safety
  • Performs preventive maintenance on tools and equipment and ensures equipment is in safe operating condition.
  • Follows established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties including lifting and climbing; operates tools and equipment according to established safety procedures.
  • Corrects unsafe conditions in work area and promptly reports any conditions that are not immediately correctable to supervisor.

Travel Requirements
  • Travels to school district buildings and professional meetings as required.
Physical & Mental Demands, Work Hazards
  • Tools/Equipment Used: Standard office equipment, including computer and peripherals; standard medical clinic equipment including AED; special needs adaptive equipment.
  • Posture: Prolonged sitting and standing; frequent stooping, squatting, kneeling, bending, pushing/pulling, and twisting.
  • Motion: Frequent repetitive hand motions, including keyboarding and use of mouse; occasional reaching; frequent walking, grasping/squeezing, wrist flexion/extension.
  • Lifting: Frequent light lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds); may require regular heavy lifting (45 pounds or more) and positioning of students with physical disabilities, and/or assisting non-ambulatory students.
  • Exerting: May be required to physically restrain students as needed (to prevent unsafe behavior).
  • Environment: Works in an office and/or clinical setting; exposure to biological hazards, bacteria, communicable diseases, blood, or body fluids; may require occasional irregular and/or prolonged hours.
  • Attendance: Regular and punctual attendance at the worksite is required for this position.
  • Mental Demands: Maintains emotional control under stress; works with frequent interruptions.
Minimum Required Qualifications
  • Education: Accredited High School diploma, GED, or Texas Certificate of High School Equivalency.
  • Certification/License:
    • Current Basic Life Support (BLS), AED, and CPR Certificate required
    • First Aid Certification preferred.
  • Experience: 1 year as a Nurse Aid preferred
  • Language: Bilingual (English/Spanish) working proficiency preferred in some settings.
