Health Communications & Community Relations Specialist
The University of Maryland School of Medicine seeks a dynamic and energetic communications and community relations professional to join its Office of Public Affairs and Communications. This full-time role supports the School's expanding initiatives to provide accessible and equitable health care in West Baltimore and surrounding communities. The individual will provide communications and marketing support for the School's involvement in the new Mondawmin Health Village in West Baltimore and other local health care initiatives across Baltimore City. This position plays a key role in building relationships and communicating the School's collaborations with key community health partners, as well as managing community health education programs for adults and children.
The ideal candidate will possess strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills, with proven experience in reaching community members through new and non-traditional media. Preference will be given to candidates who are residents of the West Baltimore community, as the role involves frequent engagement with local leaders and residents while interacting with communications and medical colleagues at the School of Medicine.

Responsibilities:
* Build and cultivate relationships with existing community structures, such as schools, faith-based organizations, and affinity groups, as well as with local news media, influencers, and community leaders; collaborate with the University of Maryland, Baltimore and the University's Center for Community and Civic Engagement as appropriate.
* Develop a comprehensive understanding of the School's major initiatives to provide quality, equitable care in close proximity to community residents.
* Develop an understanding of community health issues and over time recognize the impact and value of School's health care initiatives that benefit the community.
* Utilize all forms of new and non-traditional media to communicate these initiatives to local audiences and influencers.
* Help establish a cohort of faculty who are recognized as experts and opinion leaders on health equity and health disparities.
* Organize and coordinate the School's Mini-Med School programs, coordinating with School of Medicine physicians to provide health education to local residents and children. This includes implementing marketing efforts to expand and attract new participants.
* Develop a comprehensive and inclusive database of current School of Medicine programs, activities, and community partners; Establish affinity groups to create awareness and unite efforts.
* Implement two-way communications strategies to gain input and feedback from key community constituents.
* Perform other duties as assigned.
Education: Bachelor's Degree in marketing, communications, community/government relations, public health, or a related field.
Experience: Two (2) years of related communications, marketing, public or client relations experience.
* Preference for applicants with additional experience in:
* Program/event management
* Writing/communications/marketing
* Community engagement/organization
* Strong preference for candidates who are residents of West Baltimore and familiar with key organizations, media, and community members.
* Clery act designated job as campus security authority. (CSA) member and will comply with Clery Act requirements.
* Except for qualifications established by law, additional related experience and formal education in which one has gained the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for full performance of the work of the job class may be substituted for the education or experience requirement on a year-for-year basis with 30 undergraduate college credits being equivalent to one year of related experience. In instances where specific education and/or experience is required only directly related education and/or experience may be substituted.
Hiring Range: $63,000 - $70,000 (Commensurate with education and experience)
