Requisition No: 844852 Agency: Department of Health Working Title: HEALTH EDUCATOR CONSULTANT - 64041099 Pay Plan: Career Service Position Number: 64041099 Salary: $55,000.00 to $59,000.00 Posting Closing Date: 01/20/2025 Total Compensation Estimator Tool *This is an open fulltime Career Service (CS) Health Educator Consultant position at the Department of Health in Lee County.* This is specialized work under the direction of the Nutrition Program Director. This position is responsible for the day-to-day operations and provisions of nutrition services of the WIC site. It requires a high degree of accuracy, involves close interactions with other personnel of the CHD, and maintenance of confidentiality. Responsible for the supervision of staff Including appraisals, planning and directing their work, approving leave, having the authority for hiring, and taking disciplinary action or effectively recommending such actions. Travel to all sites may be involved in the performance of duties. This position may serve clients who speak only Spanish, Creole, or other languages. It may require performance of initerpreter duties, if bi-lingual, or implementation of the Departments Limited English Proficiency Plan. SUPERVISION : Supervises direct reports including motivating, training, providing guidance, and direction. Develops expectations and meets with staff regularly to discuss performance, complete performance reviews, and discipline action, if needed. Maintains vacation and work schedules to ensure proper coverage and completes timesheets. Ensures all staff complete required training and are offered additional training. NUTRITON RISK DETERMINATION AND DOCUMENTATION : Determines nutrition risk eligibility of clients in accordance with DHM 150-24. Documents services provided in accordance with State WIC Office documentation guidelines. Correctly identifies all high-risk clients, completing an individual high-risk care plan using the SOAP format. Refers all medically high-risk clients to the licensed dietitian. Completes FL-WiSE System data entry ensuring to complete all required screens before the end of the day services are provided. NUTRITION EDUCATION : Provides individual nutrition education contacts, adapts nutrition education content based on need of the client using the VENA concept to provide appropriate nutritional counseling. CLIENT REFERRALS : As necessary, refers client to appropriate outside agency, documenting referral. Assigns appropriate food packages. Completes FL-WiSE system data entry ensuring to complete all required screens before the end of the day services are provided. BREASTFEEDING: Protects, promotes and supports breastfeeding; assures local site reflects a Breastfeeding Friendly atmosphere. Assists with organization and maintenance of breastfeeding supplies for site and issues manual breastpumps per Local Agency guidelines. Promotes breastfeeding classes with all prenatal clients. Refers clients to Breastfeeding team as needed. ADMINISTRATIVE : Completes assigned administrative projects and reports in a timely fashion. Participates in Quality Assurance activities. OTHER: Participats in ongoing nutrition education activities with local agency. Provides nutrition education and general services at Outreach events. Performs other duties as assigned. Knowledge, skills and abilities, including utilization of equipment, required for the position: Knowledge of prenatal, breastfeeding, postpartum, infant and child nutrition. Knowledge of breastfeeding benefits and ability to promote, protect and support it. Knowledge and experience performing anthropometrics. Knowledge and experience performing hematological measures. Skill in interpreter duties, if bi-lingual or implementation of the Department's Limited English Proficiency Plan. Ability to provide nutrition education for individuals and groups. Ability to assess nutritional status and develop basic nutrition education plans. Ability to be aware of cultural diversity. Ability to make decisions in a timely manner. Ability to prepare reports, maintained records, plan, organize, and coordinate work assignments. Licensure/registration/certification requirements (If applicable, list the appropriate Florida Statute or federal regulation cite): N/A Bachelor's or master's degree from a US accredited College or University in nutritional science, community nutrition, clinical nutrition, dietetics, or public health nutrition. Other job-related requirements for this position: Incumbent may be required to work before, during and/or beyond normal work hours or days in the event of an emergency. Emergency duty required of the incumbent includes working in special needs or Red Cross shelters, or performing other emergency duties including, but not limited to, responses to or threats involving any disaster or threat of disaster, man-made or natural. Incumbent must possess a valid Florida Driver License and have a motor vehicle to carry out these duties.
