Job Summary: Responsible for providing medical care/services to students and staff on a part-time/hourly basis. Perform recordkeeping responsibilities. Serve as liaison with parents, staff, and community medical professionals. The Health Assistant is a skilled health care worker who provides service to students in the absence of the Certified School Nurse. The Health Assistant may function within the fullest parameters of competency and licensure. The Health Assistant follows the policies and procedures of the district under the direction and guidance of the Certified School Nurse and the supervision of the Building Principal. This position is not intended to supplant the mandated role of the Certified School Nurse as outlined in the Public School Code of 1949 (as amended).
Primary Duties and Responsibilities: - Administer medication as per District guidelines.
- Provide first aid services in the absence of the Certified School Nurse.
- Provide health services as required for students with special medical needs.
- Assess injuries and notify the Certified School Nurse of any injury requiring medical or dental intervention or immediate absence from school.
- Screen students who present symptoms of a communicable disease, exclude them from school if needed, and notify the Certified School Nurse.
- Contact parents/guardians to arrange transportation for sick or injured students.
- Maintain complete and accurate student health records and required records and logs including use of the District health record database.
- Initiate phone contact with parents/guardians of students who are absent from school for medical reasons to determine the medical condition of the students, as needed.
- Conduct health screening under the direction of the Certified School Nurse.
- Perform other duties related to the health and welfare of students as directed by the Certified School Nurse and/or Building principal.
Qualifications: - Graduation from an accredited school of nursing, college or practical nursing program with a current license as Registered Nurse (RN) or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
- Current health-care provider certificate in Basic Life Support
- Necessary organizational and human relations skills to interact positively with staff and students
- Must have obtained (or will obtain) valid PA Criminal, PA Child Abuse and FBI Criminal History Background Checks within the last twelve (12) months.

Hourly Rate: $19.95-$24.13 *Step placement shall be based on years of service recognized by employer.
