Wieland is hiring a Health & Safety Intern. The Health & Safety Intern will be primarily responsible for creating and administering safety management processes to drive continuous safety improvement.
This role is located in Montpelier, Ohio and will be fully on-site.
Responsibilities
Core Accountabilities and Competencies and Qualifications:
Responsively and competently address the company's safety needs with functional emphasis supporting the Extrusion, Finishing and Shipping Departments - Develop and update management systems, policies, standard, processes, JSWP's, and programs to drive continuous safety improvement
- Use hazard assessment tools to identify and reduce/mitigate risk
- Lead ergonomic assessment and improvement efforts
- Develop effective safety and health training
- Conduct facility audits and communicate gaps to the expected standard
- Actively participant in joint union/management safety committee
- Organize and manage safety records
- Assist in worker's compensation management as required
- Ability to access most areas of the plant to recognize, evaluate, and control hazards i.e. access to roof, entry into confined paces, material exposure requiring potential use of respirator, SCBA, body harnesses, tripod, winch systems, other person protective equipment which may require additional physical demands
- All other duties assigned
- Working toward a bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in a Safety-related field
- Continuing education/training in occupational safety and health
- Working knowledge of regulatory standards, amendments, advisories, guidelines, and updates
- Efficient in Microsoft 365
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Must be able to effectively work with all levels of the organization
