Job Description :
SHIFT: 7:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLITIES: The following responsibilities are required of the position, plus any other duties that may be required by the employer. Specific duties and responsibilities will be assigned by the director of nursing.
  • Work under at the direction of the school nurse assigned to the school
  • Determine students' health status upon arrival at the clinic and provide appropriate care and referral if necessary
  • Assist students with health, hygiene, activities of daily living and other personal needs
  • Assist with routine health screenings, as needed
  • Administer medications and perform selected health procedures per established guidelines
  • Make referrals to school nurse, school social worker, guidance counselor, administrator, school staff, and community agencies as appropriate
  • Notify site administrator or designee at once if an emergency situation exists, including notification if a call is made to 911. Make every reasonable attempt to notify the parent or emergency contact person regarding medical emergencies as soon as possible
  • Follow district protocol as contained in the clinic's procedure manual
  • Perform clerical duties regarding health services that include:
    • Organize, file, and maintain health information in a confidential manner
    • Documentation of health services provided
    • Maintain the clinic supply inventory
    • Assist the school nurse with students' health record review and follow up, including, but not limited to, immunization, physical exam, and emergency cards
  • Communicate effectively with students, parents, staff, and community agencies while maintaining confidentiality
  • Keep the health room organized/orderly and clean at all times
  • Maintain daily attendance records as per building procedure
  • Establish and update a health record for every student
  • Assist with Kindergarten Registration
  • Collects, maintains and distributes emergency plans to the necessary staff
  • Update the computer database on each student as needed
  • Coordinate breaks and lunches with the school secretary as needed to ensure coverage in the office and clinic.
  • Perform other school health related duties as assigned by site administrator or designee
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • First aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) certifications or agreement to become certified within the designated time frame
  • Good oral and written communication skills
  • Computer experience with Word, Excel and Google apps preferred
  • Interest in working with children/adolescents and their health needs
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully preform the essential functions of the job.The general physical demands include: standing up to four hours, climbing, bending, stooping and lifting up to 20 lbs as part of routine job activities within the clinic environment.
