DescriptionJOB SUMMARY: The Healthcare Data Engineer is responsible for collecting, processing, and performing statistical analyses on large datasets to help the organization make data-driven decisions. Their work is essential for identifying trends, solving problems, and improving efficiency. The HealthCare Data Engineer plays a vital role in turning raw data into actionable insights that help the organization make informed decisions, optimize operations, and uncover new opportunities. They will also collaborate with the Director of Information Technology and with the Director of Epic Systems to develop a data warehouse for current and future uses.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Data Collection and Extraction: Gathers data from various sources, such as databases, spreadsheets, APIs, or external data sets, and ensures the data is clean, accurate, and relevant;Data Cleaning and Preparation: Identifies and corrects errors or inconsistencies in data, such as missing values or outliers, to ensure the data is ready for analysis;Data Analysis and Interpretation: Uses statistical methods and data analysis techniques (e.g., regression analysis, clustering, trend analysis) to identify patterns, trends, and insights within the data;Data Visualization: Creates charts, graphs, dashboards, and other visual representations of data using tools like Excel, Tableau, Power BI, or Python to help stakeholders understand key findings;Reporting and Presentation: Compiles reports and presentations that summarize the results of the analysis, translating complex data insights into clear, actionable recommendations for decision-makers;Database Management: Manages and maintains databases to ensure the organization has access to up-to-date, accurate information. This can include setting up a database warehouse, database queries, updating records, and managing data pipelines;Collaboration with Stakeholders: Works with department heads, managers, or other stakeholders to understand their data needs, define key metrics (KPIs), and tailor analyses to address specific business questions;Identifying Trends and Anomalies: Monitors data to identify significant trends, anomalies, or potential issues. Alerts the relevant teams when patterns indicate an opportunity or risk;Data Model Development: Develops predictive or descriptive data models that can be used to forecast trends, assess risks, or improve operations. This can include building algorithms or machine learning models;Tool and Software Usage: Uses data analysis tools such as Tableau, SQL, R, Python, Excel, or specialized software like SAS to analyze large datasets and automate routine tasks;Performance Monitoring: Tracks the performance of specific projects, campaigns, or strategies by analyzing data and providing insights into success metrics;Problem Solving: Use data to address specific business problems, such as optimizing marketing efforts, improving operational efficiency, or identifying customer preferences and behaviors.Data Governance and Compliance: Ensure that data is handled in compliance with data privacy regulations (e.g., GDPR, HIPAA) and that appropriate data security protocols are followed.Automation of Reporting: Design automated reporting systems to ensure that key metrics are available in real-time for stakeholders, reducing manual data processing tasks.Continuous Improvement: Continuously improve data collection processes, analysis techniques, and reporting methodologies to enhance the accuracy and impact of data-driven insights.Other Duties as Assigned.ORGANIZATIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Information Science, Health Information Management, or Actuary required
- 4-7 years' experience with using data analysis tools such as SAS, SQL, Tableau, Crystal Reports (or other similar applications), and with building and coding data infrastructure required
- 3 years' minimum experience with healthcare data using electronic health system data and data development required
- Demonstrated success with using data to influence organization strategy, workflows, or results
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS:
- Must maintain a valid Oregon Driver License or ability to obtain one upon hire, and be insurable under the organization's auto liability coverage policy (minimum 21 years of age and with no Type A violations in the past 3 years, or three (3) or more Type B violations)
PREFERRED:
- Epic electronic health record system and data experience and proficiency preferred
- Bilingual in English/Spanish a plus
