Operate backhoe to expose utility breaks or to install new utility lines. Operate end loader to back fill ditches or load trucks. Operate sand spreader to control ice and snow on streets and parking. Grade surfaces with box blade. Drive dump truck. Operate street sweeper. Operate yard crane to load or unload large pieces of equipment. Perform related tasks as required.Service equipment and advise foreman of needed repairs.Ensure digging permits are properly completed prior to digging.Provide routine labor to support projects as assigned.Employee in this position is required to be on rotating standby for emergencies and/or any other event after 5 p.m. weekdays, weekends and holidays. Employee in this position is required to work overtime after 4 p.m. when work requires. Employee in this position is required to work shift work when work can't be accomplished during regular hours, and when the Management staff deems necessary.Must use appropriate personal protective equipment as required (gloves, safety glasses, hearing protection etc.). These items are not for personal use. Working around fumes. Outdoor in extreme temperatures or conditions.Overtime is an essential function of this position and may require work during non-business hours which include evenings, Saturdays and Sundays.Outside in all types of inclement weather, high levels of dust and noise. Outside in extreme heat and cold, working around and operating hazardous equipment. This position is heavy in manual labor and requires the physical ability to lift up to 50 pounds frequently and in excess of 50 pounds occasionally.Some irregular and extra hours as needed for projects and emergencies. Emergencies frequently involve difficult working conditions. This may require work during non-business hours which include evenings, Saturdays, Sundays and when the University is closed.Blackout Leave Periods: Landscape services has three identified blackout periods each year. No leave will be approved during these times. Leave requests will not be approved for the month of May, August, and October until the dates for each event listed below are posted with main campus. 1. Two weeks prior to First day of School for Fall Semester2. Two weeks before Homecoming3. Have before hire and maintain after hire, a valid driver's license. A valid driver's license must be maintained for the operation of an OSU vehicle, which is required in the performance of job duties as assigned. Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) at time of hire and maintained during terms of employment.Ability to read, write, and follow oral instructions.
