Position Type: Maintenance & Custodial/Maintenance GeneralDate Posted: 6/2/2024Location: Maintenance DepartmentClosing Date: until filledHelper - Maintenance Salary: $34,507 - $44,262GENERAL DEFINITION AND CONDITIONS OF WORKPerforms responsible semi skilled work in assisting in the repair and maintenance of buildings, grounds and equipment; does related work as required. Work is performed under the immediate supervision of a skilled trades worker or the Warehouse/Facilities Assistant.This is medium work requiring the exertion of 50 pounds of force occasionally, up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects; work requires climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, and repetitive motions; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; visual acuity is required for depth perception, color perception, visual inspection involving small defects and/or small parts, use of measuring devices, assembly or fabrication of parts at or within arms length, operation of machines, operation of motor vehicles or equipment, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing general surroundings and activities; the worker is subject to inside and outside environmental conditions, extreme cold, extreme heat, noise, vibration, hazards, atmospheric conditions, and oils.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/TYPICAL TASKSThis position description is not intended to be an exhaustive list of all duties, knowledge or skills associated with
  • Assisting a skilled worker in making electrical, carpentry, mechanical, plumbing, masonry and related repairs and installations; performing grounds maintenance work.
  • Helps in various ways, such as passing tools and materials, does preparatory work, performing trades tasks as directed and cleaning after work;
  • Uses standard tools and equipment of the trades;
  • Operates truck to and from jobs and in running errands for skilled workers;
  • Cleans and cares for tools and equipment;
  • Performs independently the more routine tasks in making building and mechanical repairs in accordance with instructions;
  • Changes rooftop filters;
  • Loads and unloads trucks, places and removes materials and equipment from the warehouse;
  • Drives and operates dump truck and construction equipment, delivers sand, gravel and other supplies;
  • Mows and trims grass and shrubbery;
  • Performs general laboring and custodial tasks;
  • Performs related tasks as required.
