Job Title: High School Head Football Coach / Athletic Coordinator
Reports to: Campus Principal and Athletic Director
Dept/School: Liberty High School
Work Year: 226 days
Salary: Salary will be calculated based on experience.
PRIMARY PURPOSE:
Direct and manage the football program from the middle school through high school level, while managing the entire athletic program at the high school level.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Certification:
Bachelor's degree from accredited university
Valid Texas teaching certificate with required endorsements or required training for subject and level assigned
Mid-Management Certification Preferred
Ability to obtain a CDL with passenger, air brake and safety endorsements
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Ability to instruct students and supervise student athletes
Excellent organizational, communication, public relations, and interpersonal skills
Knowledge of district, state, and University Interscholastic League (UIL) policies and governing athletics
Maintain appropriate records and documentation for students, staff, and programs (specifically for students/staff who need assistance).
Experience:
5-10 years of successful head coaching or coordinator experience
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
Instructional Strategies:
Use a variety of instructional techniques and media to meet the needs and improve the abilities of student athletes in the sport assigned.
Manage and supervise athletic activities, contests, and practice sessions to promote individual growth in athletic skills, teamwork, and good sportsmanship.
Work with other members of school staff to plan and put in place instructional goals and objectives to ensure the overall educational development of student athletes.
Program Management:
Establish performance criteria for competition and evaluate students' athletic abilities initially and on a regular basis.
Take all necessary precautions to protect student athletes, equipment, materials, and facilities.
Oversee compliance with UIL, Title IX, and school district policies, regulations, and guidelines.
Monitor and enforce student eligibility criteria for extracurricular participation.
Work with the athletic director to schedule competitions and coordinate arrangements.
Develop a process that is data informed to evaluate the campus athletic program and make changes based on findings.
Develop and provide a variety of student services and programs such as student athletic recruitment and retention, academic tracking and athletic eligibility, health and safety.
Student Management:
Accompany and supervise student athletes during athletic competitions in assigned sports on out-of-town trips.
Instruct and advise students on NCAA regulations with regard to academic requirements for scholarships and recruiting practices.
Apply and enforce student discipline during athletic contests, practice sessions, and while on trips off school property in accordance with Student Code of Conduct and student handbook.
Encourage, by example and through instruction, sportsmanlike conduct in all phases of athletic participation.
Communication:
Establish and maintain open communication by conducting conferences with parents, students, principals, and teachers.
Administration:
Assist in selection of equipment and instructional materials.
Compile, maintain, and file all physical and computerized reports, records, and other documents required.
Maintain a current inventory of all fixed assets within program.
Oversee process of cleaning, repairing, and storing all campus athletic equipment.
Provide athlete and coach orientation, conditioning, and athletics training programs.
Oversee the production of the athletic handbook, bulletins, and other publications. Coordinate master athletic calendars.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Evaluate job performance of employees to ensure effectiveness.
Manage personnel by providing formative and summative evaluations of job performance to the head coaches to ensure effectiveness.
Oversee the evaluation process of all assistant coaches by the head coaches of each sport.
Recruit, select, train, and supervise all campus athletic department personnel and make sound recommendations about personnel placement, assignments, retention, discipline, and dismissal.
