Position Type: High School Teaching/Special EducationDate Posted: 4/28/2023Location: Horizon Science Academy Dayton High (High-Needs School)Date Available: 08/01/2023Closing Date: 08/01/2023Job Description: Special Education Coordinator provides coordination and supervision to all special education programs in the school and to ensure appropriate special education services to all students with disabilities as aligned to IDEA; the State Operating Standards for Students with Disabilities; State Performance Plans; EMIS rules; NCLB Title II- ADA; FERPA; Section 504 1973 Rehabilitation Act; HIPAA and FOIA laws. Special Education Coordinator reports to the Principal.
Qualifications: - Bachelor's degree required (Master's degree preferred or a proven record of success).
- A valid special education and/or administrative certificate.
- At least three years of teaching experience in Special Education.
- Mandated Reporter; CPI; First Aid and AED endorsed, or intent to become certified within 3 months of employment.
The position requires the following activities:

- Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks efficiently and effectively while meeting objectives and deadlines.
- Ability to work with appropriate staff for responding to student concerns in a timely manner and connect students with campus, and community resources as needed.
- Work collaboratively with the other departments at school to ensure students are supported with transition planning as students successfully complete their programs and find meaningful post- secondary options/ employment in their field.
- Ability to understand, interpret, and implement policies and procedures and to be an effective problem solver.
Performance Responsibilities: - Supports the coordination of all special education programs, related services, accommodations, fidelity of differentiation, caseload to staff ratios and the advocacy for program space and resources for the success of those programs.
- Co-supervises and assists all staff members involved in special education programs.
- Co-coordinates special education in services, curriculum development, and program development.
- Assists in the development of and implementation of local procedures and policies for identification, evaluation, and placement of students with disabilities.
- Oversees the development and maintenance of all child information management systems and other special education records.
- Stays abreast of all legal requirements governing special education and their application to programs for their designated school sites.
- Participates in budget and staffing recommendations on special education programs as is appropriate.
- Assists in the development of positive relationships with parents of students with disabilities to help them better understand their child's unique needs and to provide support to these parents.
- Assists in recruitment and selection of all special education personnel.
- Other duties as assigned by admins or his/her designee.
Evaluations/Conduct: The coordinator shall serve as a role model for staff and students in how to conduct themselves as citizens and as responsible and positive human beings. Each staff member has a legal responsibility to help instill in students the belief in and practice of ethical principles and democratic values. *The coordinator will be evaluated related to their job performance, growth, professional development needs and the intent to be re contracted.
Travel Requirements Travels to school district buildings and professional meetings as required.

- Bachelors from an accredited college or university in education discipline applicable to teaching assignment.
- Masters Degree in Special Education preferred.
Experience: Successful prior special education experience for the appropriate grade level preferred.
