Position Type: Instructional Support - Para/Aide/Childcare/Highly Qualified Paraeducator/Teacher AideDate Posted: 5/1/2024Location: USD 284 - Chase County Public SchoolsPosition works on days when school is in session 7 hours per day, part-time position is 4 hours per day. Base hourly rate is $15.62. Additional compensation for past work-related experience and level of education may be granted. Purpose: The highly qualified teacher aide/paraeducator assists in the operation of instructional or supportive services in the school system. To accomplish these tasks, the highly qualified teacher aide/paraeducator works closely with the staff and administration of USD 253. Responsible to: Principal Payment rate: As established by the Emporia Board of Education Qualifications:
  • Must have completed at least 48 college credit hours or have passed the ParaPro Assessment.
  • Desire to continue career improvement.
  • Health and Inoculation Certificate on file in the Central Office.
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the board may find appropriate and acceptable.
  • Essential Functions:
  • Assist professional staff in instructional or supportive services.
  • Ensure that all programs and activities conform to district guidelines.
  • Communicate effectively with all members of the school district and community.
  • Appropriately operate all classroom equipment as required.
  • React to change productively and handle other tasks as assigned.
  • Support the value of an education.
  • Support the vision and mission of USD 253.
  • Physical Requirements/Environmental Conditions:
  • Requires prolonged sitting or standing.
  • Occasionally requires physical exertion to manually move, lift, carry, pull, or push heavy objects or materials.
  • Occasionally requires stooping, bending, and reaching.
  • Occasionally requires balancing.
  • Must work indoors and outdoors year-round.
  • Must work in noisy and crowded environments.
  • General Responsibilities:
  • Prepare instructional materials and supplies for use.
  • Assist in the supervision of students in class, in lunchroom, on playground, and other areas as directed.
  • Tutor students as directed.
  • Perform specific instructional or related tasks as directed.
  • Attend staffings and general staff meetings as required.
  • Assist grading papers.
  • Maintain necessary records.
  • Perform general clerical tasks.
  • Set up displays and equipment.
  • Assist in the maintenance and inventory of materials.
  • Obtain advance approval of the Principal for all activities and expenditures.
  • Work effectively with students, teachers, parents, community agencies and other groups.
  • Respect the confidentiality of records and information regarding students, parents, and teachers in accordance with accepted professional ethics, and state and federal laws.
  • Strive to maintain and improve professional competence.
  • Stay abreast of new technologies, data management and communication.
  • Comply with legal and regulatory requirements as provided by state and federal law.
  • Uphold and enforce board policy, administrative procedures, and school rules/regulations including but not limited to:
  • Acceptable use of technology
  • Sexual and racial harassment
  • Child abuse reporting
  • Health and safety including all precautions of the Bloodborne Pathogens Exposure Control Plan
  • Maintain safe and well-organized instructional spaces.
