The role:

Do you like working outside? Do you enjoy working both with a traveling team and independently? As part of our team, you will perform manual labor and operate equipment necessary to maintain, repair and reconstruct roadways, highways, bridges, signs and structures. This is a seasonal position that is expected to last approximately 6 months from date of hire. Seasonal positions are regular status, benefits eligible positions, which occur, terminate and recur periodically or regularly.

A day in the life:

* Complete weather-related operations including snow removal, deicing and sanding.

* Operate heavy equipment and perform manual labor to repair roadway surfaces and shoulders.

* Perform traffic control and clean up in emergency situations.

* Repair guardrails, milepost markers and fences.

* Dispose of debris, clear brush, mow grass and spray roadside vegetation.

* Maintain drainage systems, dig and clean ditches, repair culverts, inlets and erosion.

* Complete minor service and repair of equipment, tools and motorized equipment.

* Perform minor building maintenance including janitorial, landscaping, painting and light carpentry.

* Clean up litter and graffiti.

* Exposure to noise, extreme heights, all weather conditions, heavy equipment, pesticides, fertilizers and hazardous waste materials is expected.

* Must be able to move around rough terrain, bend and stoop for extended periods and may need to lift up to 60 pounds.

* May need to be available after hours, on weekends and holidays for emergency, on call and weather related purposes. This position may work in different areas within Central Oregon.

Minimum qualifications:

One year of experience performing basic highway maintenance work.

OR

Two years of general landscaping, maintenance, mechanical, farming, logging, and/or construction experience or training.

Special qualifications:

CDL-A Required: Employee will be required to use a commercial motor vehicle to conduct business. You must possess a current, valid commercial driver's license A (CDL-A) with no air brake restrictions, no 5th wheel restrictions and no manual transmission restrictions to be considered eligible for this position. You must also have or be able to obtain a tanker endorsement within 30 days of hire. A valid driver license and an acceptable driving record are required for this position. We will conduct pre-employment driving records checks, including Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) Clearinghouse registration and full query check for our final candidate(s) and annual query for current employees.

This position requires a maximum 45 minute response time to 17655 W. Highway 26, Mitchell, OR 97750 for emergency call-outs.
