DescriptionWhat You'll Do:
  • The EHS home-based option is a method of service delivery that capitalizes on the home as the young child's primary learning environment. This position is responsible for planning and implementing a child development and family support program in the home-based setting.
  • The Early Head Start Home Visitor (Home Visitor) must demonstrate relationship-based practices when working with children and their families. The Home Visitor works with peers to facilitate the group socialization experience (parent-child playgroup) at the Early Head Start center. Programming also involves providing parenting education and connecting families to health and social services including providing early intervention service coordination where assigned.
  • Plan and implement an early education curriculum (birth to three) in the home and center setting while placing an emphasis on the parent-child relationship;
  • Provide a prenatal curriculum to pregnant women including accessing prenatal care from a health care provider;
  • Conduct screening and ongoing assessment of children and demonstrate the ability to use this information to plan the curriculum to be responsive and to support each child's pattern for development and learning. Activities in all developmental domains should be outcome based and purposeful;
  • Promote child and family literacy to include offering literacy and language experiences in the home and at the center;
  • Support the families' ability to use the home and everyday routines as the child's primary learning environment;
  • Conduct weekly 90-minute home visits to young children and their families;
  • Provide a healthy and safe environment at the EHS center that encourages play, exploration and learning;
  • Demonstrate basic safety and handling techniques (universal precautions), emergency procedures, and prevention of communicable and infectious diseases; and assume general responsibility for overall maintenance of the program site;
  • Provide child development and parenting information to families;
  • Monitor and educate parents with regard to children's health status, including medical follow-up, physical health, dental health, mental health, and nutritional intake.
  • Maintain confidentiality and code of ethics at all times.
RequirementsWhat We'll Love About You:
  • Minimum of home-based CDA credential or comparable credential, or equivalent coursework as part of an associate's or bachelor's degree and one year experience in childcare or early childhood setting or working with families with young children is required.
  • Associates Degree in Child Development, Early Childhood Education or related field Bachelors Degree in Child Development, Early Childhood Education or related field is preferred.
  • Employees in this position must possess reliable transportation, a valid Michigan driver license, and CPR and First Aid Certificates. A Family Service Worker, CDA, Parents as Teachers Educator, or PITC credential is preferred and may be required once hired.
