Preble Streets Emergency Food Services help meet the nutritional needs of our community members through our Food Security Hub, Mobile Food Services, Food Pantry, and shelter-based meal service sites. Preble Street has adapted how it provides food services to effectively meet the food needs of people experiencing homelessness and food insecurity, and our team of food services professionals work together in our innovative Food Programs toward achieving our goals to address and end hunger in our communities.

Preble Street has an opening for a Homeless Services Team Lead to work in the agency's Food Programs. Under the direction of the Homeless Services Kitchen Manager, this hands-on position will provide shift leadership and coordination for a dedicated and collaborative team of staff members and volunteers in the day-to-day meal service operations at the kitchen in the City of Portland's shelter programs. This role will also perform other kitchen and warehouse tasks in support of the Food Programs in multiple locations as needed.

This full-time, temporary position has a schedule of Friday - Monday, 8:30am to 6:30pm. This role will run the duration of one year with possibility of extension.

Minimum Requirements
  • Training and/or experience in kitchen or other food service industry work, or other relevant training and/or work experience, with previous shift lead or related experience and experience in provision of services for people experiencing homelessness preferred.
  • Ability to safely drive a van or small box truck and a valid Class C driver's license with acceptable motor vehicle records check results, according to Agency and business insurance requirements.
  • Food service safety training certification.
  • Ability to regularly work a full-time schedule, with consistent, predictable on-site attendance to meet program coverage needs, and work different and/or extended shifts to meet program coverage needs, as needs arise.
  • Understanding of the Preble Street mission, and positive regard for individuals experiencing homelessness and/or living in poverty.
Compensation and Benefits

This is a full-time, benefits-eligible position, with a pay rate of $23.93/hour. Generous paid time off, insurance, and retirement plan benefits include:

  • 4 weeks/160 hours (accrued) vacation time, 20 Days/160 hours (accrued) sick time, 4 Days/32 Hours Personal Time, 12 paid holidays.
